    Car in the north

Hi Sean, Its a lovely offer for me to pop down. I reckon it could be a lot more useful than my visit to Oakmere dealers. Can we arrange something by text? I work in Harrogate so it would be best for me to tie it in with being on that side of the pennines. Rich 07818 651195

    Car in the north

Hi Sean, Many thanks for your reply. Its my first Seven so phycologically don't fancy black for visibility. However there is someone at my local group that has had a respray so when i see him i will ask how much it cost. Out of interest, have you had many [any] experiences of not being visible in black? Car in the north

Well Birmingham is considerably better option than kent, budget is £14k - £20 as there seem to be loads of 1.4's for £17k ish with very low mileage but i am worried about out growing it. Also because i saw a supersport sold recently for 17 before i realised that i actually quite like the yellow. thanks for your help. R

    Car in the north

Hi i am looking for a car, 1.6 engine, preferably in the north please if anyone is interested. It will be my first Caterham so i am of the opinion that a 1.6 will be fine forever as a road car. Anyone got a new car on order or thinking of an upgrade. I live in Yorkshire and actively looking now. tried a 160 which was a total hoot but i think i will grow out of it. Richard
  6. Dear All, Thank you very much for your replies, The question started because i was in one of the Caterham sales places looking at Morgans and 7's and the sales chap said that i would not fit in the SV that i had just got into. I had it in my head that the seats are fixed [from an old friend with and even older Lotus 7. I now suppose that he meant that i wouldn't reach the pedals in THAT Seven. I live in the Yorkshire Dales and there are not many owners around here, i did go to the club meet last year one evening but lately i seem to always be on shift when the meet is on. I realise that its obvious to go and try a few but i am much more comfortable with private sales than garage ones. At least from your answers i can arrange to view some potential cars to buy confident that, following a phone call, an SV is not just for big people. I am a slim 5'7, 30" leg person weighing just stone but because i want to use to car to get to work, go on climbing trips with 'some' kit and go visiting friends with the other half, oh and wear ordinary enough shoes then i thought i should try to get an SV despite naturally being an 'originals ' man. Once again thanks for your replies, its the first time i have used the forum. Very impressed. Rich
  7. Hi, Looking for a first 7 for road use and trips. I am confused as on one hand blurb says buy an SV but on the other there is suggestion that my legs won't reach the pedals. I'm buying second hand, my legs are 30". Rich
  8. Hello again, Thanks for all of the info, unfortunately i am not local to you at all but most of the cars are in the South it seems so i will have to make a trip anyway. Torque sounds good to me for my idea of use. I'm actually in the Yorkshire Dales but i do love the adventure of a trip to collect a vehicle, its a more romantic start to the relationship. Shame i didn't log on the other week as i flew to Gatwick last week and had a spare half day before the train north. What is your house timescale please so know how long [or not] i can dither. Richard
  9. Hi, i could be interested, i am looking for my first 7. I think that i want an SV for useability and being able to drive it wearing normal shoes . BUT - i am looking at the power and wondering whether it is too powerful for me and also what could i get as mpg for a tour or steady run please? - i can work out the rest from there. I want it for 3 season use to make commuting across the pennines more enjoyable for the next 5 years and to liven up driving trip to visit people or go climbing. Regards Richard

    first club meeting

I went over to Cracoe the other week for my first experience of a club meet. I liked it that when i arrived some were eating and others not and was comforted that it was not going to be a stuffy or over polite doo. After we had eaten i was 'surrounded' and asked so what is it you want to know? After car chat for a good hour or more i know that i should get the upgraded brakes and that 130 bhp should be a minimum. I forgot to ask about wheel size. It also became apparent that unlike my 2 friends who have each had the same car from new and never changed it, the club members were onto their 2nd or 3 rd car which takes the pressure off having to choose the right car. I learnt that suspension can be too hard and that you can make the car too noisy. I was also reassured how well they crash with some pictures of one of the cars. I look forward to being able to make further meetings.

    Start of year of discovery

Oh in my goal of getting my 'first' car, that is its not a van for sleeping in, carrying diy stuff or a cheap £300 effort, i seem to have come across Morgans. Well singular really only the 4/4 stacks up for mpg and in particular price. Hopefully it seems like the experience of ownership will be so different that all i have to do is drive them both. fingers x'ed its that easy

  13. I first got in a 7 in about 1994, my mate still has the same car. My first drive was, of course, the same day. Over the next few years i would enjoy the occasional visit and ride, oh how i wanted one, but you can't go kayaking, mtb ing, climbing in one, and i didn't have a garage and of course i didn't have any money. Yes of course that was the main reason. In about 2000 another mate bought one and we would go climbing in it. How i love watching the front wheels bounce up and down. How i can't imagine being in a crash in one. 3 years ago i bought a house with a garage, now that's a start. Next year i can access some long term savings..... and so i am going to buy a Caterham Seven. This is my 6 months of making some decisions.
