    620 ZZS tyres

Just a quick update... It was Caterham's new dealer (HWM) who said they didn't have enough in stock at the moment (only 2), but I guess they may not be hooked up to the full Caterham stock yet... So I called Avon direct with the number in the member offers section and spoke to sales, who said the tyre was not available! I even asked if their motorsport division might have it and was told the computer says no! But out of desperation I called their motorsport division myself and sure enough, they do have stock So, the take-home from this is ask specifically for their motorsport department, not sales! And it appears they can only sell the tyres to motorsport fitters (he mentioned BMTR in Birmingham and another I didn't catch the name of near Bath, so there are not many it seems!) otherwise they will ship them direct to you and you can take them to your fitter of choice...

    620 ZZS tyres

I need a full set of new tyres, ideally ZZS 195/50R15, for my 620S, but I have been running around all day trying to find a set (or any!). I know Avon is shutting up shop in the UK, but I was under the impression that wasn't until later this year... Does anyone know where you can get them from (In the Guildford - Reading area)? Or failing that, what is everyone else moving to? R888 (although my tyre place tells me they can't get them as they are not a registered motor-sport place of some such)? Thanks.
  3. Just a quick update, in case it helps anyone; I bought a Enduroline EC680 from Tayna for £88 inc delivery in May. The terminals take slightly smaller bolts than the PC680 Odyssey that came with my 620S, but that doesn't really matter as the new battery came with a set of bolts. Otherwise it slipped straight in and has worked perfectly. I can't confirm longevity yet, nor the claimed specifications, but I can confirm it works just fine, and is quite a bit cheaper than the Odyssey option.

  6. Going by the dial on the dash, it runs cold most of the time when it is moving (i.e. the needle hovers around the bottom of the dial). In traffic it quickly rises and the fan comes on and off every few minutes. Is the Easimap required the free software from here: https://sbdmotorsport.co.uk/product/easimap-6-pc-software-easimap-6-pc-software-download-for-free And then is it the £192 cable (!) here: https://sbdmotorsport.co.uk/product/mbe-map-kit-3-can-basic-can-mapping-kit-for-mbe-can-based-ecus Or would I need the £600 one (!!)? Or a trip to the seaside...
  7. OK, that's interesting to know. But I assume installing a thermostat isn't as easy as it sounds, as it would require wiring, plumbing and an ECU re-programming to use it? Is that what PGM effectively do for the £3.5k I already drive as hard as I dare So, in the absence of £3.5k, and back to my original questions; is it OK to simply do without the lambda?
  8. Ah, so PGM do a remap for the 620 do they? I took my last 7 to them for a flat-floor some years ago, so I know PGM. But a quick look at their site and it seems to start from £3,418, which seems a lot of money to solve a problem. I might give them a call, bit it's not like I need more performance or anything , so it's going to be a hard-sell unless there are some other benefits to the kit?
  9. Hi, I have a 3 year old 620S which has had an intermittent fault since new. I have seen many similar reports on here, and from 420 owners too, but basically, under very light throttle, the engine runs rough. When you push further it suddenly comes on song and is fine again. It makes driving slowly (even I have to sometimes!) really rough and going from off-throttle to a balanced throttle to accelerating out of a corner impossible in the wet! Every time it has been back to Caterham they fiddle with it and more often than not tell me they replaced a faulty lambda sensor and it is fine for a while. But before the next service it is playing up again, so we rinse and repeat. I have noticed it smells a bit of pertrol, and I am only getting about 20MPG, even on motorway driving. During the fish & chip run it was getting slowly worse throughout the day (which suggests its not a simple component failure, but maybe the lambda sensor coking up?). By the evening it suddenly got worse and it was as though there was nothing for the first quater of the throttle pedal travel then after that it was fine. So in the end I disconnected the lambda sensor at the roadside and from then on, it was perfect again! I also got 25MPG out the next tankful and I don't think it smelled of petrol anywhere as much. So I guess the question is, do I need the lambda sensor connected at all? Can I remove it and bung the hole? Or do I need to get back on to Caterham for a permanent fix, or do I need to consider lambda sensors as consumables! Is it needed for emissions MOT testing? As when it went for the last MOT the guy didn't even know if it had a cat or if he even needed to do the tests, so I get the feeling if I had said no he would have just skipped them. There is a nagging part of me that wonders if the failed lambda sensor is actually caused by something else causing over fueling which is coking the sensor up and although disconnecting the sensor solves the symptoms, it doesn't fix the root cause. I am also aware there are many similar issues reported on here and much talk about Easimap and the like, but I have read so much I am a bit lost, so wondered if someone could provide some more basic advice (we can get on to Easimap later if required...). Thanks
  10. Just wanted to follow up with this... I squirted some normal WD40 in by hand and that improved things, but I was concerned it would quickly evaporate or burn off. So I got some of this for £7: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KMRDEMW And one of these for £8: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004LY3GDO My first problem is that on my 620S the top (pedal) end of the cable has a plastic thingie attached for it to clip on to the pedal box hole. It seems odd that the plastic thing is fixed to the cable; there is no reason why it needs to be fixed on and it would make the cable very car-specific, but pull as I might it won't come off! This means you can't get the above tool clipped on to it!!! As mentioned above, I can't work out how to liberate the bottom end of the cable from behind the inlet manifold. But in the end I worked out I could just about get the above tool clamped on to the bottom end of the cable with the cable in situ, using feel alone, and then pass the tube of the spray grease between the inlet pipes and get it all plumbed in. A few squirts later, with plenty of rag held around to catch overspill, and I have a properly lubricated cable, with grease coming out of the top end, which must mean it is spread throughout the whole cable. Anyway, hope that helps someone sometime...

Hi, Did you (or anyone else for that matter) try the ENDUROLINE EC680 in the end? My PC680 goes flat at a moments notice now, so need to replace it and the ENDUROLINE EC680 is quite a bit cheeper, and supposedly slightly better (on the specs at lease).
  12. One of these you mean? You say you used chain lube, but the chain wax I have doesn't have the straw to connect to the nozzle and as I understand it the above tool only works if the can has the straw nozzle? The only thing I have with a straw that is close is the ubiquitous WD40, which I guess will do the job, but might not last as long as a heavier chain lube? Fortunately, on the 620S the routing of the cable is around the back and down the 'cold' side of the engine, so although I'm sure it gets hot, it shouldn't be anything like exhaust manifold hot.
  13. Hello, I have noticed over the last few drives that the throttle pedal isn't very smooth on my 620S, which makes it tricky in traffic pulling away smoothly. I just disconnected the end of the cable and in isolation every part seems to move freely; the pedal, the cable and the thing on the engine end, they all move OK. But when I put it together, it is overly stiff, as if the cable is rubbing somewhere. Having listened carefully, the only sound which suggests friction, is at the engine end, and if I disconnect the pedal end it is still a bit jerky, which makes me think it is the engine end, where the wire inner cable comes out of the outer part. I considered a bit of lubrication, but my feeling is that it shouldn't rub in the first place, so this may not help and shouldn't really be needed. Or should I just put some 3-in-1 down the cable and hope for the best? My second question, is how do you get to it, as it is well and truly trapped below the inlet manifold above and supercharger pipework below! I can just about get a finger or two to it from the sides and there seems to be a black, square nut on it (see pic below, taken through the inlet manifold), but I can't seem to move it and don't know how it all goes together. Any help and advice would be much appreciated? P.s. I should add, the car is only 3 years old, so there are no signs of fraying or corrosion, every part still looks like new. Thanks
  14. I was in the Blue 7 going the other way, waving! I was on the way to do the weekly shop. The wife told me a list of what to get and by the time I got there, I only recalled something about some chicken and too be honest I took a bit of a flyer on the beer as I don't think that was on the list, but anyway... I don't think she will be asking me to do that task again

I had just parked my 7 up from a (essential) run out when I had to take my wife for her COVID jab and she insisted on the tin-top (fun-sucker, as may lads would put it), otherwise we could have shared a wave! Yours was orange, or was it an orange stripe, my memory must be going but I'm sure there was orange in there somewhere!
