  1. great thinking Jim. back on it tomorrow - that suggestion is obvious if you are multimeter competent, but i am better at plastering and building and fixing the solid metal bits on cars. Just looked up how to test continuity. feel really good about a positive outcome in morning.
  2. Am i making some assumptions. The pairs of blue wires are connected together - 1 pair to another pair and they have connectors to suit. Becuase of the ends [not econoseal as i thiin of it] I Assume they are meant to be like that. I have put a meter on each of the 4 wires, i assume that there should be a reading - but perhaps that is not correct if they need power first. The spade fittings tucked up high with the loom IS the correct green and brown colour and HAS a live. Reading 40 'somethings' So perhaps i connect these [by changing the end fitting] to one of the pair of blue wires. And perhaps then that gives it the power. And then perhaps it will read power at the econoseal connector in the boot that again fits the description. It also fits with the above advice that it is all reachable from the tunnel. The wire connectors are the misleading thing. Home 01729 823173 if its easier
  3. What do the lettrts and numbers mean. Green gn. I presume
  4. Yes Jim the 2 pairs of both blue wires are connected together on my car. Don't know weekday they are. The prospective location opp blanking plate is much further forward. Ian Payne said when they were making it road worthy that several parts of wiring were missing. I guess the racers cut everything off that they Donny want to save weight. So are Tyne pair of blues supposed to be connected together and where is the switch suppose to be located is where I am at now. Nipping out for quick hour on boulders as had enough of this for a sunny day. Ba n on it at 5. Thanks Jim
  5. Hi oldboarder. I wonder if the switch was not fitted at all in build. Is the switch located a long way forward just near to bellhousing? opposite a blanking plate in the passenger footwell ? If so then I haven't got the switch and explains lack of wires.
  6. ach, well tunnel off easy enough now. I looked at the link to other discussion and my gearbox looks like his. However the forward connections are a switch that is wired into the the switch/ connector at bottom of gearbox [could be a pressure or oil sensor?] the rear most green spade connectors have a permanent live in reverse or neutral. I can't see from where it originates , its just in the loom. Could do with a chat with someone who has just built theirs??
  7. thanks Johnathan, i meant squirming under the car, before deciding to raise it a bit more rather than just enough...Back on it tomorrow
  8. Dear all followers of my difficulty [ wish i'd asked PT sportscars to do this job originally before i bought it]I am having difficulty removing the tunnel. I presume [from assembly guide] i de adjust the handbrake to get it vertical. But i don't know how to . I see there are 2 plastic rotating adjusters accessible from the boot but there it looks doubtful to get enough movement although not fully tried that. I was too busy squiring under, raising the car more, checking fuses, and levering the tunnel to try to see. But really i have to remove it. I have one seat out. Any common english understanding of adjusting it out enough? Strangley i am kind of enjoying this but i keep taking more bits off the car. Rich

  10. I i am wanting to buy a second hand set of wheels from someone in Caaterham. Is anyone driving north with a vehicle big enough to carry 4 wheels.I can pay towards your fuel. I live in the Yorkshire dales but anywhere north of Birmingham / Leicester would do and i could drive down for them. Rich
  11. Wow thats accurate advice. Going walking inLakes sunshine tomorrow so will have a look on Friday thanks
  12. Hi SM, again i had access to a glamorous assistant today. I found a green wire on the O/S of petrol tank that turned out to be an extra brake light connector which i wanted to find anyway and i found a a permanent live at the back of the boot in the middle. There is a green wire in a connector block that is pretty dirty but i can't get a reading for that with the car in reverse gear. Still trying , i am hopeful that it is because the connection is dirty. I did not look behind the tank [ that i found to be loose and hopefully the cause of some clanging about last year.] Just back from a fell race on the isle of man staying with my initial inspiration for the car. Going to take it over sometime. Remember if you would like to visit our area you are welcome to use our house as a base
  13. Hi Chris, i believe it is a mazda 5 speed, any ideas on what the connection looks like at that end?
  14. Hi Jim 123, you have offered help to me before about fitting press studs. No the car has not had a reverse light before , apparently i don't need one for an MOT [ Ian Payne says]. But i have got the boot out and access for fitting the fog light so i thought i would fit a reverse too. I can access a dirty connector block with open connections , ie half of the connector and am hopeful that it is just dirt. Friday i shall get underneath to see if the gearbox connector is obvious.

  16. Thanks all, i have been plastering walls all day today so no chance to check on all your advice. Will try again after easter.
  17. Hi all, I fitted a fog light yesterday which was easy as i was just changing to a fitted led one on the body. I have bought a matching reverse light but i don't know where to find the wire. I put the ignition on and car in reverse and used a electrical tester on a connector on the L [nearside] but couldn't get a reading although it is dirty. And i tried it on 2 unconnected spade connectors on the right [O/ side] . I downloaded the assembly manual but there isn't much on it [p164 ish] I realise its not easy for anyone just o look due to the location but if anyone can remember where or have any hints then that would be great.
  18. Grrrr, brrrr. arrhhh. Well pleased really. Whilst fitting a fog light i ended up discovering that the petrol tank was loose. So perhaps that has been the source of the banging noise at the back. warning to anyone thinking that an ex race car might be an easy way into road car use, this is just the latest. I know , i know don't buy a race car when you want a road car and vice versa. Now i agree. Now just got to find the wire to connect a reverse light

  20. thanks for that Johnathan, i often struggle with the search function on here. Rich
  21. Hi i need to fit a couple of fixings - press studs , to the body for the tonneau to fix to. At the moment there are a different type of fitting that i don't know what it is. Do i drill a hole and press it together? A bit like you tube shows me on the fabric but in metal? I am home tomorrow and could call someone if its easier to tell me verbally that write. I presume i have to buy a tool as well Many thanks Richard
  22. Ach, Finlay, you should have emailed me, i have only just seen this conversation. Did you get it sorted? I did take a photo when i removed it but not sure whether i have it now. Rich
  23. Hi Andrew, I would like to buy your boot cover please. I was going to try to glue repair mine but wasn't sure how well it would work. Many regards Richard Timms 07818 651195
  24. Ah ha got it. Place new gaiter /rubber boot over axle. Turn upside down and rest metal rim of boot on open vice [ so that the jaws are just on the metal only. Hammer fairly strongly the back [top] of ball joint. It worked for me and better than above although as i say i didn't have any pipe the correct diameter nor a socket where the drive is large enought to accomodate the axle diameter
  25. yep didn't do very well with bathroom drainage pipe, i split the first rubber. I don't have a 3/4 inch drive socket so i can't get the socket to work. I will try the other in a vice at work but it seems that the small hole of the gaiter won't pass over the stub axle easily when i try to push the riing over. And if i push the narrow hole of rubber over the stub axle first then the rubber diameter spreads out making the sleeve type idea difficult. Its a 2013 car, just in case there was a change. It seems i should have bought the new end. As i say i will take the other off and take it to work where there is a vice.
