  1. Pauncefoot Hill, Romsey by pass them towards Winchester.
  2. Oddly, I find myself driving with greater respect/courtesy when behind the wheel of the Caterham or the Mark 2 Jag. Not sure why this is.....in the Jag it might be a case of reverting to the standards of the 60s but in the Caterham......maybe subliminally I don't want people to think that sports car drivers are arrogant d...s? Mind you, I did get shouted at this afternoon when I overtook (very slowly and very wide) a couple of horse riders. I felt quite wounded.

A working speedo is not a requirement for an MoT.

  7. I don't know the answer to your question - sorry. But do you prime the carbs before trying to start? 3 full presses on the throttle helps enormously...... but you probably already know that!
  8. Just replaced my Banner battery - same scenario as Twincamtim. Very impressed with rapid service from Trayna - arrived next day.
  9. I'm afraid I did - sorry. Was probably too busy looking at speedo cos of the camera and random "safety"/tax collection operations in the area. Hope you're enjoying your time in Hampshire.
  10. There certainly were some VX 1.6 8v engines fitted - e.g. the Beaulieu special edition. Good torque low down but runs out of grunt fairly quickly. listed as putting out 100 bhp, mine gave 125.

    Which engine?

Thanks for your comments. Have gone for the car with the Raceline Zetec R 2l. Apparently that was fitted from new. Car is in fantastic condition with incredibly low mileage. Can't wait for next week - just hope that's still some summer left to enjoy it.

    Which engine?

I'm thinking of upgrading from my current Caterham - 1.6, 8 valve VX. There are 3 cars on my shortlist, each with a different engine; Raceline Zetec-R 2l 160, Zetec Dunnell 165, K series 1600. I'd appreciate your thoughts/advice on the best choice and the pros & cons of each. I anticipate road use only, of a fairly spirited nature. Thanks
  13. Thanks for the very speedy replies. How could I be so thick (no comments please) - turning off the battery master switch was the solution. Interesting calculation for battery drain. I suppose i could remove the lamp in case I forget the master switch but it does look good. Good to know that there are such helpful people on hand.
  14. I recently had several small jobs done at Caterham Crawley, including fixing the cigarette lighter which hasn't worked for ages. It now works - apparently a lose connection and blown fuse. But, when I put the car (1999 Vauxhall 8v) in the garage I noticed that the green light ring around the lighter is lit even with ignition off, so the lighter is permanently connected. Is this a problem? Will it cause battery drain, is there a fire risk? Can I plug in a trickle charger through the socket? (Never needed to use before but maybe it will be needed now.)
