  1. Never used. List price £450, offers in the region of £300 welcome.
  2. Ralph45, if you're looking for a new hood please see my ad in the For Sale section. It was supplied when I bought the car, 2000 S3, never used it. I've now sold the car so the hood is surplus to requirements. Price negotiable.
  3. Cover-Zone, Stormforce, all weather, 4 layer. Bought a few years ago when I had to keep the C7 outside for a month or so, did a good job. Not used since. Easy to put on/take off, packs into a carry bag, fits easily in the boot. Cost £155, offers invited around £80 + p&p, or collect near Southampton.
  4. It's irritating when someone responds expressing interest in an advert and suggests a reasonable offer but then doesn't respond to a PM accepting the offer. Not difficult to reply saying had a change of mind.
  5. Until very recently I had a C7 with a Raceline 2l Zetec engine. It was fitted before I bought the car so I have no idea about installation. Over the 3 years I had the car the engine was a delight; apart from routine maintenance it needed no attention and ran beatifully on twin Webers. Always a 1st time starter, provided you primed the carbs. Mainly used on the road, with a few track days; the power wasn't excessive for the live axle. Hope that helps.
  6. C7 TS X for sale. Ideal for a Caterham and perfect if like me your initials are TS. Valued by RegTransfers at £600, sensible offers welcome. On retention.
  7. For an S3. Brand new, never been used. Looks like the list price is about £600 so I'd be happy with an offer in the region of £400. Can be collected near Southampton or posted at cost.

    Shock absorbers

Took the C7 for MoT this morning. Once up on the ramp the tester pointed out that the offside rear shock absorber is broken; the spring goes straight up to start with then bends at about 30 degrees. The top and bottom of the shock absorber is still attached so it must be broken part way up. Suggestions please for what make/model to replace both rear shocks with and where to source them. It's a 1998 2l Zetec with a live rear axle. Thanks.
  9. Revilla, are you able to give details of instrument repairers? Mileometer and trip meter get stuck - fixed once but failed again after 3 miles so a more enduring fix would be good.
  10. What is a polished windscreen and why does it merit 2 mentions in the blurb?
  11. Picking up TomB's suggestion of drilling a hole to thread the cable through.....when fitting a high level brake light for me my auto electrician absolutely refused to drill any holes in the roll bar for fear of damaging it's integrity.
  12. "YouTube frottage......" Is that a Freudian slip?
  13. Not too sure what a Newton fuel cap is - is it the standard Caterham item with the little lift up flap? If it is try your local locksmith - mine provided a spare key from stock. Thompson's and a local cobbler who also does keys sucked their teeth and said no chance.
  14. Lloyd & Whyte seem to offer very competitive premiums, with track day cover a nominal additional cost.
  15. Oh, you mean an estate car......I thought you were being a bit optimistic if you were hoping to buy a house + land for £3k.
  16. This is about mileometer rather than speedometer but this seemed like a good place to post...... Approaching 10,000 miles the mileometer was working fine, but on reaching 10,000 it stuck and won't go any higher. Is this a common problem and is there an easy fix?
  17. Tom Airey is very good. Not cheap but he achieves very good results, has masses of parts on the shelf and his rolling road is useful.
  18. I haven't read the whole thing, but from a quick skim it looked to be quite well written with a welcome sense of humour - far more user-friendly than the manual from a rival, look-a-like manufacturer that a chum is currently building/grappling with. It might prove to be useful for maintenance. I was amused by the comment that you should allow a month to book an IVA test because of bureaucracy, whereas 2 months should be allowed to book a post-build check with Caterham!
  19. With the acknowledged efficacy of half hoods I'm wondering if it's worth carrying a full hood as well?
  20. New bonnet for £100 - no more than 2 years ago.
  21. Panel beater did a good job of straightening mine but he couldn't get it perfect. You might find it easier and cheaper to go straight for a new one! Redline supplied me with a new one for about £100! (Including p&p)
  22. I'm a bit surprised that the operation of the speedo is checked as part of the IVA 'cos it isn't in an MoT. The speedo in my Maserrati only worked intermittently and wasn't working for the MoT test. The dealer assured me it wouldn't be an issue and he was right. However, he was wrong when he said that it just needed a new sensor (£70) - it needed a new head unit (several hundred £s). I wasn't hugely comforted to hear that an equivalent for a Ferrari would be several thousand £s! Avoid Italian exotica with dodgy electrics and massive parts
  23. Pauncefoot Hill, Romsey by pass them towards Winchester.
