  1. - one to add to the growing spares and parts list! Edited by - Silverback on 11 Aug 2014 07:55:48
  2. Thanks everyone, yes coolant bottle is my thought as well although nothing obvious round the thread or cap. Have cleaned up and will run again (but not today - see below) as want it nice and ready for trackday in a few weeks... http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y482/mlarbey/A%20new%20R400%20finds%20a%20happy%20home/9F8C7F54-6F3E-4CB7-BBCE-744D151E4D98_zpstquck5aa.jpg
  3. Lovely long blat this evening to meet friends and his 1969 Mustang. Took the bonnet off to show him my 'very small block' and noticed white spots of some fluid leak that I had not seen before - on hoses and expansion bottle in this picture. http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y482/mlarbey/A%20new%20R400%20finds%20a%20happy%20home/7CCEBCDD-6B4C-4B8D-A407-21311D7C3C46_zpsqxksnovm.jpg I checked the hoses and the expansion bottle and couldn't see anything obvious but what I didn't check was the radiator itself? Thoughts? Edited by - Silverback on 9 Aug 2014 23:36:53
  4. Quoting nickh7: Matthew its those cheap wheels you got 😬 Haven't got them yet!
  5. Hi, Wondered if any of my locals can recommend a decent tyre fitter/wheel balancer in the herts or beds area? Wheels will be attached to the car so want someone who is jack and wheel nut sympathetic? Thanks Matthew
  6. Quoting Grubbster: The inner part can't have moved while the ball joint is in place, but this loosening of the lock nut is very common in the race series - we were checking them frequently as they were often loose. thanks, reassuring to know not just mine
  7. Thanks Steve, Steering seems slightly offset as well, so I may take a trip to Northampton motorsport for them to give it a proper alignment... Will check the wheel balancing at the weekend...visually I don't appear to be missing any but worth checking in any case
  8. Currently experiencing a bit of steering wheel judder at speed so I was looking over the car last night and found that both upper wishbone mounting nuts are finger loose on the threads. http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y482/mlarbey/A%20new%20R400%20finds%20a%20happy%20home/98919ABC-4129-4ECC-86A3-F5315CD5B278_zpsksry89gl.jpg So my questions are: - could this be a contributing cause to the judder - should I simply tighten up or is there more tracking adjustment I should do at the same time? Thanks Matthew edited for correct suspension anatomy! Edited by - Silverback on 7 Aug 2014 22:04:19
  9. Was in the diesel so didn't think to wave...
  10. As the title says, I am after a decent wheel/tyre package as a second set for my R400 so I can keep one set for track days and another for road. The standard 13's (6 and 8) with CR500s are out of stock with caterham parts at the moment so not sure about 3rd party options - would prefer to stay the same sizes/tyres if possible. Also confused as hell over offsets and spacers - would like to be as 'standard' as possible and keep the cost to around £1,000 all in... Thanks Edited to say - sorted as I have bought the CXR's that were up for sale Edited by - Silverback on 1 Aug 2014 17:53:56
  11. Quoting andy_h: Silverback, Yes mine is easy to change between screen and aero. ... Hope that helps. Yes it does - thanks
  12. Quoting andy_h: I had a drivers side clear Perspex race screen and its bolted through the scuttle. I currently have a clear aero screen. The clear aero is easy to fit remove and uses the same side fixings as the full windscreen (other than the centre fixing which I utilised the existing poppers). The individual race screens will need the scuttle drilled for fixings, so not a quick fix. So, just to understand, the meteor style clear full length aero is easy to change over with the full windscreen? I'd like to be able to alternate between the two without too much work. I assume I would still need a set of mirrors, wiper spindle covers and some form of easy connect/disconnect for the heated windscreen? Anything else? Thanks Edited by - Silverback on 27 Jul 2014 16:22:53
  13. Quoting AdC: Good question. I'd like to know too. Noticed only yesterday my crotch strap is being abraded by the hole edges. Yes, that's what I want to avoid...
  14. Hi, Anyone know where I can get a rubber insert for the center crutch strap hole on my tillets? I have the shoulder ones, but Caterham Parts don't seem to stock one for the centre hole? Thanks
  15. Was me waving in the Orange R400
  16. Hi Andy, you have mail...one pair for me please
  17. A little update - Chris roughly checked mine while he find my 1,000 mile service check. 97dB static So I am pretty close to borderline for Bedford...would still be interested in them checking mine for a 2nd comparative reading but at least it gives me a rough idea of where mine is at. I would expect you to be a couple of dBs above?
  18. Superlight dash - same one as shown on this car (not mine) here
  19. Indicator buttons - meant to illuminate (with lights on in the dark ) or only when pressed?
  20. Quoting Roadracer1977: So an update... As Bedford is my closest circuit (and quite possibly the strictest in the UK in terms of noise) I thought it a good idea to speak to them. I've spoken with Andrew Gardener (at Bedford Autodrome) this morning. He confirmed their noise limits as follows: 101db static 87.5db drive by If you exceed the drive by you are excluded for the rest of the day without warning - based on that I asked how do you know if you're going to trip the drive by? He suggested that if you're under 96db on the static there's practically no chance of you exceeding the drive by. They test the db at 2/3rds of your maximum rev limit. He said so long as he's there I can run the car up there to get it noise tested for free and we can take it from there. Let me know when you might go and he can check both at the time...
