robert green
I have 15" Prisoner Wheels and had decided that I would replace the elderly Pilots with CR500's. However, wanting to hillclimb this year I can't have these as they are not on the list for a roadgoing class. I was thinking of Toyo T1s as an alternative. Any other suggestions for a tyre with progressive break away on 15" rims?

Irrelevant
Nope A048-Rs aren't 1A, they're 1B. J351 TPE - Battered Old Chassis and some bits!
SteveP
Bridgestone RE720 are available in 15" and are the tyre of choice for list 1A in 13" size - no personal experience of them in 15" though. If you buy these, make sure you get them shaved a bit to expose the softer rubber SteveP
Mike Bees
I've used 15" RE720s, they're probably as good as anything else on List 1A, now that you can't get S02s any more. Mike

Irrelevant
A bit O/T but relevant . .. . how do you get tyres 'shaved'? How much RE720 tread is ideal for sprinting? I was just going to reduce new rubber with the assistance of an empty Tesco car park 😳 . . .was quite looking forward to it! J351 TPE - Battered Old Chassis and some bits! Jason Plato
1.8 mm is ideal It is said that the 720's have a softer tread compound at the 3.5 mm level .

Phil
I have a new set of toyo ts1s on my 1700ss dd car and I did have pilots, what a difference, so hard to put into words, the change of direction from the front is so much better, the back does not let go and I do not drift on fast corners, the ride is more comfortable and my confidence is sky high. The main difference I think is in the side walls as the pilots now on my audi have improved the steering responce but the ride is harder, the pilots work better with a heavier car.Buy some. 195/50/15s on prisoner rims now changing over to 10 spoke R300 wheels. Carl
Falken 520 are very good if you have them shaved. I telephoned the tyre sepecialist in the back of Evo car magazine (BTCC or something like that). After a lengthy conversation they suggested that the best tyre that they would recomend was the Falken. They preferred them to Toyos. Apparently they are pretty soft one shaved.
