noddy
Apart from Shell Optimax who else does 98 Octane fuel???? I know that there are lots of "Super Unleaded" fuels but most of these appear to be 97 Octane ...... Does anyone use fuel aditives, if so which ones 🤔

Steve-B
FWIW, and it is... i recently had to drive to/from Uxbridge via Taunton M25/M4 being i had time not on my side, i used my 7, and tried Optimax vs. Ultimate almost negligible breeze in my SV+VHPD+CC 6-spd box 140 miles Optimax = 1/3rd tank 140 miles Ultimate = a needle width over 1/2 same under a ton, ahem, reasonable speed 😬 you chose which fuel. i'd suspected i'd get this, based on inexact observations. now i've got proof ❗ Steve B Big Black Beast^3 SV VHPD
Grubbster
The 1/3 and 1/2 tanks - is this what was used or what remained 🤔 - I guess the latter, I'd love to do 140 miles on a 1/3 of a tank! Jason Plato
What engine and setup are you running Noddy ? If you are on std ecu from caterham there is no need for 98ron , normal unleaded is fine . sjmmarsh
When I picked up my (second hand) 1.8VVC SV last month from Caterham Cars, they advised me to used super unleaded as it gave better results. I followed their advice, but have noticed that the manual does say that 95 RON is normally sufficient. What is the group wisdom on this one - is it worth the extra 5-6p a litre? mav
Steve, I run Optimax almost exclusivly and IMO the car runs better on this than anything else. Could be myth, but I can tell the difference. Regards, Martin
noddy
My R400 is "on factory settings" and only a month old. The owners manual says R300/400/500 needs 98 RON fuels but that IN AN EMERGENCY they can be run on lower octane fuels for a limited period of moderate, or low speed motoring, as long as engine knocking does not occur. R400 .......... I love it
The Gimp
and i was told to use standard unleaded in my R300 by Caterham and i must have the old manual as the one they gve me makes no reference to the r300 or r400
BigYin
How's this for consistency? Caterham advised me to use Optimax in my SuperSport R (R300 equivalent) though said 95 RON was OK for restrained operations (as if!) in emergencies. noddy
GOOD POINT," limited period of moderate, or low speed motoring" personaly I havn't managed to work that bit out yet. I just want to drive my car balls out all the time ............ what I actually mean is ......... hard acceleration upto the legal speed limit etc. On a serious note, I have already done a couple of track days and have found it hard to find 98 RON fuel near to the track. SO WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS ............ CAN FUEL ADDITIVES BE USED TO BOOST THE OCTANE RATING??? IF SO, WHICH ONES ARE BEST 🤔 R400 .......... I love it Edited by - noddy on 10 Dec 2003 23:17:
Bare
In my part of the Planet.. Fuel Additives.. and specifically 'octane boosters' are "Snake Oil".. in that they do little besides waste yer Money. May be different where you live, but that's not likely.
