I'm afraid the day has come where I've decided to sell the car ! I simply haven't got the time or energy to race it any more, and it's starting to compromise my home life.

The problem with the gearbox on Saturday at the Brighton Speed Trials was sorted and I ran the car at Santa Pod yesterday - It will however be sold with Elite's latest spec box with the sequential mechanism running along the top. They've weighed one of these at 18.5 kgs (the savings come from the cast as opposed to billet casing)

The car felt really safe yesterday having made the rear suspension mods to increase the instant centre of the axle bars. These mods including the double adjustable 8212 Konis cost c £2k.

A couple of photos of the car can be found in Doug's links to the BST's on Saturday - at the bottom.

The engine has recently had all the valve springs replaced with Smitthelm versions - retail for these is £900. The engine is built to F2 spec by Aaron Tucker at HTR with the addition of steel Hart cams and electronic slide throttle injection managed by Motec. Car's currently mapped for race fuel on grey injectors but can be returned to a pump fuel setting on smaller injectors - Quarter mile times indicate that there has been no advantage through the use of race fuel whether in terms of et's or trap speeds.

Car weighs 425kgs ready to go with 1/2 tank of fuel. Engine and box weigh 110kgs. Rear axle assembly including gundrilled shafts, spool, alloy diff nose and bike discs weighs 37kgs. Full spec follows (this is not intended to be exhaustive);

Car will also be sold complete with spares (wheels, tyres, diff, shocks) and decked Minno with long ramps and wheel stays (bought in late 2001 when the car was completed).

I'm sure the car would make a good hillclimb vehicle and could easily be made ready for SVA.

Car was built in mid/late 2001 by HT Racing from a brand new Caterham supplied live axle chassis. The objective was to build the fastest accelerating Caterham in the UK (something I believe I have achieved). A power to weight target of 650 bhp per ton was set but 675 bhp per ton has finally been achieved. The car has run a quarter mile time/speed of 10.49 secs @ 132 mph (1/8th mile 6.8 secs @ 108 mph) on pump gas and hillclimb tyres. This probably equates to acceleration times of under 3 seconds to 60mph and under 6 seconds to 100mph. Over 100 mph is where the car really comes into its own though with a 0 - 125 mph time of around 9 seconds. Surprisingly the car (engine/box) are very easy to drive at road speeds. This is facilitated by the efi and very slick sequential mechanism.

The engine is as good as a any top spec Geoff Richardson unit which currently retail at £27k plus Vat excl manifold but including mechanical fuel injection - BDR700 is efi on a slide which has advantages over a mechanical set up.

The gearbox has been developed around an idea I had, and has resulted in a very lightweight unit (18.5 kgs) allowing 50 millisecond gear changes with a powershift facility built into the gear lever.

The car has only attended one track day (Lyddon), two sprints (Curborough) and c 20 quarter mile passes since it was completed at the end of 2001. It is not driven on the road or used in anything other than perfect conditions. It is garaged at all other times.

OIRO £35k (I have probably spent c £50k on this car by now)

Sorry to see you are selling after all the development. I hope it wasn't anything to do with me telling you I was retiring from competition and selling my car in the New Year!

Having driven BDR700 2 years ago in the Brighton Speed Trials I can vouch for the car being awesome. It is also immaculate and totally unique.

Well let’s see where shall I begin!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi to everyone I'm Dave's wife Alison (mother to 2-year-old twins).

I'm as shocked and surprised as you all are to find out that he's put his baby up for sale (no that’s not one of the twins) its low and behold the caterham. Shock and horror spring s to mind wouldn't you say.

I know Dave had his heart set on running 10's (I think, I feel bad now because I never listened) but at the end of the day he would never be happy if he wasn't racing, he loves the buzz especially at Brighton (as do I, because I get a babysitter for the day and I'm free) now where was I oh yes Dave and his car hmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So come on you lads out there give him some support , tell him not sell, he’ll be under my feet otherwise,(only joking Dave) yes I know I do complain when he goes off racing but at the end of the day its what he loves and really enjoys.

Thats all I've got to say (for now) so lets encourage Dave to keep the car, keep on trying and with hard work he'll get the time he wants.

Better go, as he will be home from work soon.

Al

Oh Gareth no matter what happens you still won't get the car?????????? - only joking

Dave, As your local A/O you should know that any sales of a Seven in my area have to be vetted first by myself. I'm afraid that you have failed miserably to follow this simple ruling. This means that you are banned from any sale of said Seven for a period known only to myself!!!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED *mad*

It's for your own good. I don't want to have to send 'the boys' round (with a special white coat including extra long sleeves!)

Note the re-writes. All from the worry about your delusions that you can sell THE Seven without prior permission being given !!!
