Doc007
Can you confirm that removing the battery cut-off switch has the same overall effect as disconnecting the battery with regards to then working on the electrics of the car? I'm fitting LED rear lights tomorrow and just want to be sure.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 7, 2023 Member Share Posted June 7, 2023 I'd expect any cut-off switch to isolate the feed to the lights.I recommend disconnecting the battery.Jonathan
John Vine
If your isolator switch has been wired in correctly, the answer is yes.Note that some owners (me included) compromise the intent of the switch by fitting a (fused) supply direct from the battery for devices like satnavs and phones.JV
Doc007
If the lights turn off when the cut-off is thrown what added advantage is there to disconnecting the battery?

Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 7, 2023 Member Share Posted June 7, 2023 Disconnecting the power side battery terminal removes the power to everything between the battery and the cut-off switch.Disconnecting the earth side battery terminal removes risks caused by accidentally touching a wire or a tool onto the battery or something else that's still connected to the battery.Jonathan
Wrightpayne
Lots of FIA switches on sevens have been wired incorrectly - I was speaking to someone at Curborough recently who said quite a few engines carry on running when the scrutineer throws the red key!Unless you're absolutely sure its wired correctly, I'd disconnect the battery. Amos91
I can't say I disconnected the battery to put the LED light kit in, it's just loom plugs.
