Diff level for refill

Just changing the diff oil and got most of the old stuff out hopefully. The diff needs to be level for refilling but it has that many ribs and fins on it is hard to measure . I presume that if the top of the petrol tank is level ( I have he boot floor out) so easy to check,then the diff will be level too? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Hi JK....Sierra. I presume if I level the car up taking into account "rake" everything should be level.

John. It's not so critical. If car is reasonably level (not on a sloping floor and not got just one end jacked up) it will be fine.

Thanks all, refill tomorrow and see how much it takes....that should show me how much I didn't get out!

It's worth replacing the final drive level plug with one like this:

.....makes checking the level much easier with a ring spanner from underneath
