Chassis number

 I am David from Spain, one of my friends have an old Seven, he doesn't know if it is a real Lotus Seven or a replica. He told me the chassis number is BL 1631 R, do any of you know this chassis number could be from a real Lotus Seven?.

I believe John Watson is still the man to ask.

Is the number "BL1631R" stamped on the chassis plate or on the chassis itself?  As far as I know, "B" chassis numbers were allocated by either Arch or Progress. Maybe the "L" indicates LHD?

And yes, a photo would be good!

This is the only place I can find reference to a B prefix.

What year is the car supposed to be?

And repeat what others have said.  Photos of the car will help a lot

There's some interesting stuff here regarding Universal Radiator chassis and the "B" and (possibly) "BL" prefixes.  It also describes in some detail the different welding techniques employed for Series 2/3 chassis.  That might help you when establishing the provenance of the car.
