John Pattison
I've got an SV Sigma, that produces about 94 dB at 4,500 in track tests.I'd like to have a go around Thruxton, which has a 90 dB max. Has anyone come across a "bolt on" addition to the side exhaust to knock a few dBs off?Merlin appear to advertise something of this ilk, but never seen one and no idea if it would fit or work.Anyone found a solution to this? Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 31, 2022 Member Share Posted May 31, 2022 I've seen references to "Decibel Slayer", a homemade version, and something that I can't remember like "coffee pot".I suggest starting with these threads.Jonathan
StevehS3
I have no experience of these but as an example.https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/decibel-slayer-bolt-on-exhaust-noise-decibel-reducer-insert-birdbs1/
Blackmamba
Hi JohnI have used the Demon Tweeks decibel slayer and it takes the edge off but you are looking at a few dB rather than anything more substantial. It's enough to get me through noise checks which is what matters though and easy to fit and not obtrusive.I have ended up with 2 so if you are interested, I can sell you an unused one at a bit of a discount to the Demon Tweeks price. 7 wonders of the world
One of the race teams - (can't remember which at the moment!) offered a piggy back silencer than looped back into the new one which sat on top of the current one and exited at the front , was pretty easy to fit and remove. Area Representative Andrew Gilbert Posted June 2, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted June 2, 2022 as per #6, a decent exhaust shop would be able to make one of those up.those I've spoken to using a decibel slayer reported very mixed reports, but dropping 4db is quite a big chunk of noise to lose. JR9470
I use a solution sold by the Swiss Caterham importer KumschickLAUTSTÄRKENBEGRENZER "SOFT" FÜR RENNSTRECKENBETRIEB worked well, but I am not sure if it really manages to reduce by 4dB... which is a lot... aerobod - near CYYC
4dB is possible with the Supertrapp type silencer. I went from just over 93dB to 89dB measured at 15m with this similar homemade solution using 18 Supertrapp disks:
John Pattison
Thanks guys, lots of options to investigate. All the comments are much appreciated. If I come up with a perfect solution, I'll pass it on!
7 wonders of the world
Theres a R300 silencer in For Sale at the moment ripe for reworking into a piggy back set up.
ECR
ive had a twin side mounted silencer setup for many years. i wanted something that was easy to fit at the circuit if i had problems with noise (260hp VX 16valve on throttle bodies). i have two raceco silencers mounted one on top of the other with the final exit disappearing under the car (makes trackside measurement very difficult for marshals!). below are figures taken by the marshals at doningtonDrive by after 4 laps with 1 Raceco side exit (not yet up to full speed and commitment)99.6 db99.5 dbDrive by with twin Raceco silencers in the final 15 minutes (well up to full speed and commitment)96 db lap after lapDrive by with twin Raceco silencers Donington 21.10.19 98 db quiet day and no problems

ECR
I rather like the fact that it looks ridiculous. It sort of makes a point about noise levels on pre existing circuits
