Brake bleed screw / nipple

Have just changed the brake fluid and now have a very slight weep on the rear Sierra callipers. Never had this before after just nipping them up. Is there a recommended torque figure for these as I don't want to over tighten them? Thanks in advance.

John - I do not think there is a torque setting for such a small thing. If there is it is probably not even 2 or 3 inch pounds.

Could there be that a tiny piece of hard contaminate (microscopic grit/dirt) trapped under the nipple seat ? Other wise I am afraid it is 'up till it shears & back half a turn' if you see what I mean. I am sure that a man of your caliber can judge how far to go with a small spanner before the inevitable ?

For obscure torque values on common items, I will usually just look up what BMW has (they have torque values for everything, even screws holding on covers and trim items). For brake caliper nipples they specify around 12Nm, with front calipers typically a bit higher and rears a bit lower.

12Nm - about 8ft/lbs. Could be a bit heavy handed for a tiny bleed nipple on the Girling caliper ?

I'd say if the thread is M6 / 1/4" or less, yes, it is too high, 6Nm would be appropriate for M6 / 1/4", 3Nm for M5 / 3/16". M8 / 5/16" and above is fine at 12Nm torque. Typically the bleed nipple is going to be a similar torque to the brake pipe flare fitting of a similar size, as the end of the nipple seals on the tapered end in a similar manner.

Thanks for all the advice....quick update...One side sorted at 8nm other now reduced to minuscule leak. Anybody know where I can get replacements ? Seems to be lots of variants. The bleed screws on require an 11mm spanner

Recall rears are metric thread and standard Girling fronts are imperial.
