Buying a TIG welder

Any experienced welders out there able to give advice on a decent TIG welder to buy for a novice, don't need to weld Aluminium, thanks.

I use a specialist to fabricate stainless steel suff for me - let me know if you do not have any success and I will ask him.

I had the same idea as it was a skill I wanted to improve, after research decided MIG was the best starting point and depending on your workshop/garage facilities was a good starting point as single phase 13amp.

I think you can get them from Halfords now so can use the club discount.

Main thinking behind TIG vs MIG was that I dont want lots of sparks flying around all over me, my car, rest of the garage etc!

Someone told me that TIG was much cleaner, albeit more difficult.

That R Tech looks great, do you weld aluminum often? The DC only machines are quite a bit cheaper but it is definitely tempting and I'm sure this would be nicer to weld steel with too.

I can also recommend R-Tech. I've got the TIG welder linked above as well as a MIG from them and they've been very good. The warranty and UK support is a big bonus. They're not the cheapest but if you're not interested in welding aluminium then you would only need the DC version which is about half the price of the one above.
