  1. Apologies should have said, Duratec, 2.0 in a 420R
  2. Happy New Year! Does anyone know the length of the bolts used to fix RBTBs to the head? Or do they use studs, clearance to the roller barrels seems very tight to get a bolt through the hole that's long enough to secure it properly?

    New 420

I have a 2016 420R, has never stalled, idles fine when cold. I bought second-hand, so maybe its a new engine thing and just needs a few miles on it?
  4. Looking for a standard throttle set up, thx!
  5. Thanks John, I managed to find that one online, as a novice its not easy to decipher, just lots of random letters and numbers with no key!
  6. Hi All I wondered if anyone had a wiring diagram available? Kind regards David
  7. Brands also fine with standard exhaust
  8. Looks fab but way over my budget. I can get a mx5 5 speed for £300 but as you say would be at 10 degrees tilt. Its for a mk1 Escort rebuild, to mate to a 2.5 Duratec. Is tempting though...
  9. Hi All Anyone have a Caterham 5 speed (based on MX5 I believe) for sale? Thanks David

    duratec engine

Long shot but does anyone have or know of a secondhand duratec engine for sale, any spec eg 360/420, 2.3?
  11. Anyone tried to fit a Rotrex supercharger to a 420R, TTS sell a kit for a 2.0L Duratec for about £3k?

    420R rev range

Hi All My first year of trackday driving my 2016 420R SV and I'm wondering about gear selection. I seem to spend most of the time between 4k and 6k revs. Is that too low, I'm not chasing /100ths just curious if I'm generally using the wrong gears! The engine noise doesn't really encourage higher revs, at 6k it's already v loud and I find I change up due to mechanical sympathy but maybe I need some ear plugs? Per google, torque curve is pretty flat and (hence) power curve fairly straight, so not sure I would be going any quicker. Have another trackday next Monday (Brands) so will give it a go at higher revs but good to hear your own experiences. Thanks David
  13. That R Tech looks great, do you weld aluminum often? The DC only machines are quite a bit cheaper but it is definitely tempting and I'm sure this would be nicer to weld steel with too.
  14. Main thinking behind TIG vs MIG was that I dont want lots of sparks flying around all over me, my car, rest of the garage etc! Someone told me that TIG was much cleaner, albeit more difficult.
  15. just as a hobby really, might try and fab an exhaust pipe for a challenge
  16. Any experienced welders out there able to give advice on a decent TIG welder to buy for a novice, don't need to weld Aluminium, thanks.
  17. Sam here, let me know if you can find one.
  18. I have the same gap even though it clears the wipers, are you sure they are the problem?
  19. Thanks both, the knee panel and the interior panel were stuck together by the burring from the self tapping screws (I think). On one side I used a claw hammer! to lever apart and on the other side I pulled out the rubber trim between the two which unstuck the two panels, second method I would say is better. Once unstuck the panels wiggled out quite easily.
  20. I've undone the self tapping screws from the interior panel and the knee panel wont budge. Any advice, not sure how delicate or not I need to be to shift it?
  21. Thanks, was thinking of do something like that, glad to see its an option!
  22. I'm in Sevenoaks, Kent. Do you know the make/size of the crimping tool, I maybe able to borrow one a bit closer to me?
