TomB
Morning, can anyone advise what the brake pipe flare shape is that goes in the cylinder? I gather there are different forms of the mushroom shaped flare. If I take a piece of pipe to a local garage for flaring, I need to be able to tell them what shale to flare it. It’s N AP uprated cylinder if it matters.
ScottR400D
Have you thought about buying the tools to do your own? It’s easy enough and could be cheaper than having just one done by a garage.
TomB
Yes and no! A few years ago I replaced all my copper lines, but I couldn't get the hang of flaring with a borrowed tool. I ended up buying the correct lengths with the fittings and flarings from Redline, but they cant do that anymore as the business no longer has the workshop. Current plan is too hopefully buy the correct length and fittings, but get them flared in a local friendly garage for some beer money.
ScottR400D
Fair enough, sorry I can't help further. Are you replacing the pipe, so you have the old one to show the garage? I guess not?
TomB
I have a weeping union from the MC - first step is to clean up the existing mushroom flare with some 800-1000 wet n dry. If that doesn't work its a new union, then a new MC.
EEK
Not the answer, but does this help?http://www.fedhillusa.com/?page=flare
TomB
EEK, yes thanks. Look like is a ISO/DIN flare. Cleaning it up with 1000 grade paper hasn’t helped, in fact it’s made it worse, so looks like I need to cut the end off and get it it re flared.
