OrangeSLR
I want to replace the clutch on my K series SLR with 6 speed Box whilst the engine is out for a refresh. Any recommendations what type and where to buy?

Wrightpayne
I currently have an AP uprated clutch in mine - the original plate disintegrated at quite a low mileage.I’d happily use a helix clutch after reading various reviews about them.Thrust bearing essential to change - search the forum for the pre-load modification which adds an extra spring in the pedalbox and remedies the cause of failure.Something else to check is the spigot bearing in the end of the crank. They are an absolute pig to change as it uses a sleeve to fit the ford bearing in the rover crank. If it feels smooth with your little finger I’d just work a bit of new lm grease into the rollers but not lots as it may be forced out and contaminate the new clutch plate.Check the fork for cracks - mine had one where the cable attaches. I got a second had one but understand one of the ford rally specialists have had them remade. If you have a bell tank double check the clutch fork as they are prone to bending.RegardsIan

Leadership Team RogNeedham Posted January 30, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted January 30, 2019 I also strengthened the fork that comes with the dry sump bellhousing and fitted a clutch pedal stop to ensure I wasn't overstretching the mechansim
mark_w
This is an interesting topic re the AP or Helix here especially the conclusions reached #17 ... also mirrors my experience with the AP clutch (torque rating too low) which didn't last long. just my opinion I'd go for the helix which i got from Burton power

OrangeSLR
After discussing my requirements with the guy at redline (very helpful) I've gone for the Helix which will be fine for road and track use without being too harsh also apparently there are some supply issues with AP? Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted February 1, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted February 1, 2019 My understanding is that AP have been relocating their manufacturing facility and supply is still a problem.
