L7 Insurance deal with Adrian Flux

Evening all,

Just a 'heads-up' for anyone thinking, like I was, that the Club negotiated Insurance deal with Adrian Flux is another great reason to pay your subs.

My insurance is due to expire on the 7th Sept with Footman Jones. Now, I've only had my car for a year and the insurance was not a bad price (I thought) at £255 dispite it increasing by about £50. I never usually bother to get locked into the never ending questions that getting a quote entails, but I thought I'd shop around this time.

I called AF as they get mentioned quite a bit on the Facebook Page that I Admin (C&L7 owners group) and asked for a quote. They asked what my best price was so far. Using a little white lie, I said £195 (last years price from FJ). I don't like to show my hand in a game of bluffing. Anyway, they came back with the same cover (£16,000 agreed value, no cost salvage buy back, 5000 miles and £175 XS) at £158. When they asked if I wanted to proceed (as they always push) I said that I had some more quotes to get before I decided. They than asked me what price would make me 'Buy Now'. I said that £140 would seal the deal, they spoke to the supervisor (Insurance is as fake as buying a used car) and came back 60 PENCE more than I wanted to pay hehehe. I wanted to give FJ a chance to match it before I jumped ship and told AF I would call back in 5 minutes.

Then, for some reason, I thought 'I wonder if being part of the L7 Club would afford me some discount and logged in on here. I was delighted to see that Club members get a huge 20% off PLUS 5 FREE trackdays inc. 2 in Europe. W O W.

I called AF back, got a different 'handler' and got asked him about the discount and free trackdays. He told me that this was correct (Getting VERY excited now...) and I told him I had had a quote so he could bring it up.

Now, he said he'd go through a few things and then he could quote. Right, this time I quite enjoyed the Hold Music knowing I was in for a great treat in a few minutes...

'Hi' he said, 'thanks for holding'... So, I can insure you using the Club discount and your policy comes in at £255.68p with a £1,600 XS. 'Are you ready to start the policy?' he said. NO WAY was my reply. I asked him how a 20% discount INCREASES my premium and my XS became ridiculous. He told me that it was because trackdays had increased likelyhood of a claim. He really didn't like it when I said that the 5 days were supposed to be FREE. I even suggested that the £1,600 XS would be ok when I was tracking but surely it should be lower 'on the road'.

Needless to say, I took the £140 deal, no trackdays and no CLUB discount.

It really is true that you don't get something for nothing and if a deal seems too good to be true, iy often is.

Thank you L7 Club for trying to negotiate a 'good deal' but you (and us) have been taken for a ride (Not on a track, obviously).

Yours,

Disgruntled from Keswick.

;-)

I think this is where the misunderstanding about the excess may lie.......

Quote the Flux Club Liaison Rep:

"the £1600 Excess would purely have been for the track day usage – not for the daily Road Traffic Act / on-road usage.  Of course the underwriters have to increase the excess during a track event – not doing so would commercially make very poor sense."

My Adrian Flux policy is up for renewal so I asked to be re-quoted with the club discount applied and the free track day cover.

The response was that I already had the car club discount applied.  Fair enough, I thought that might be the case.

The track day cover added £90 (25%) to the quote, so it's not free but still good value.  Recently I have found separate cover from Moris has got expensive - about £200 a day!

I didn’t find that with L and W. I insured with them for 3 years, each year between £600 and £650 including track days, which I was told was £50 of the total.

My main gripe was that I was offered no NCD of any form, even with the 4th renewal offer.

I’ve gone to Reis this year, at a much lower price though they’re not as easy to deal with as L and W were.
