Bouncy Speedo

I have often had the speedo bouncing around, usually after pressing on for long periods and possibly when hotter.

Im sure there are answers to this on here somewhere but...is this a new speedo deal or is it a calobration situation...( JNC im going to have to come and see you...on this ?)

If it's a cable driven speedo, then it's the cable.

I did have similar problem. 

I had the censer on the rear hub repositioned  and it was a whole lot better, although when the weather is hot it does make a little difference. Certainly not as bad as it was.

Hi Alan,

I take it this is on your Duratec 175?

The two usual suspects are:

1. An incorrect air gap (either too wide or too narrow) between the sensor and the toothed reluctor ring on the RH driveshaft.
2. Interference picked up by the sensor earth (Workshop Notice WN572 describes the fix).

For fixes, see post #4 in this thread.

Less common:

1. If you have Watts links and a rear ARB, it could be due to a pre-load on the sensor mounting bracket.  Workshop Notice WN460 describes the fix (basically, a different ARB mounting bracket).
2. A duff speedo.

Ha I remember well and the bouncing just reminds me of it and the consequences
