Spigot Bearing Removal

I know this has been covered recently but I'm really struggling.

Why does every little job take three times longer than expected?!

So far I've tried filling the hole with grease and whacking a bolt in but the grease manages to find a way out before the bearing.

I've also tried using a rawlbolt, gripping on the inside of the bearing, and whacking something attached to the rawlbolt.

I then modified the rawlbolt to locate on the back of the bearing but that didn't work either.

Is it possible to use a bearing puller?

Am I missing something obvious?

I'm seriously considering leaving it in there but there's a nagging doubt at the back of my mind that the rawlbolt might have damaged the bearing so would prefer to remove it.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Have you tried soaking news paper and gradually filling the bearing and driving a mandrill in to force the bearing out.

The wet paper method works best although if you've damaged the bearing in your other attempts it might be harder for it to come out this way now.  Wet paper does take a while but is the cleanest method.

As mentioned above, using a Dremel and small grinding stone to take the leading edge off the bearing and just lever it out the remains with a small screwdriver.  Took less than 5 minutes.

In answer to your question is a bearing puller possible yes ! Sykes pickavant make a internal bearing puller that works like a slide hammer .
