mcerbm
I have my engine out currently at DVA for a refresh after 3 years of competitive miles. I was wondering what I should by changing / upgrading / checking etc while I have the engine out and for a new season. The bell housing and gearbox are still in place. the clutch is ok and doesn't need changed. My initial thoughts:replace clutch cable / throttle cablereplace clutch release bearingreplace spark plugsClean / check all electrical connectorsgeneral de-grease of engine bay
TomB
Inspect clutch cover for cracks between springs, clutch friction material thickness. This winter I've had the engine out and also stripped the many old tape off and cleaned the engine and chassis wiring loom with white sprit and a toothbrush, before rewrapping in proper loom tape. I replaced various cracked econoseal connectors, the fan terminals and all spade connectors.

randybugger
I changed engine and gearbox mounts when I had mine out. Also checked wiring for crispness around primaries and replaced where necessary.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 20, 2017 Member Share Posted February 20, 2017 Convenient time to add sealing and protection gunk if you think that's a good idea.Jonathan
mcerbm
Thanks for the suggestions, all good ideas. How would I recognise if my engine mounts were done, visually they look fine. What would be the symptoms, do they harden or soften?
Ian Mackenzie
RE engine mounts...Put one of the mounting bolts back in and flex the rubbers side to side by pushing the head of the bolt side to side to see if the bush is still bonded to the insert that the engine mount bolt goes into as a starter for 10. I've replaced mine when the insert has showed signed of coming away from the rubber.I hope that makes sense?CheersIan
