Why is it that these screens seem to get pitted? Mine is going to need replacing soon. The one in the tintop is completely bullet proof. I guess it is that the glass is poorer quality and less hardened during the manufacture?

I think it's more likely the more vertical position of the screen - small hard objects hit it and get stopped.  Tin top screen is more slopely so any impact is more glancing, plus a better air-flow to assist in carrying them up and over.

A tin-top one once it's done enough miles looks as bad as an enjoyed Caterham one.  A new one in either makes a world of difference.
