Leadership Team 700newtons Posted January 24, 2015 Leadership Team Share Posted January 24, 2015 I'm about to fit cycle wings on my 160. Is the any IVA requirement that they must cover some fraction of the wheel, or anything like that.I think I'll bolt them on rather than bond them. However, any advice welcome (before I cock it up). Martin J
On my kit I chose to bolt them also. It's one of those jobs where you measure 10 times & cut (or at least drill) once.I should just align them so they look right & symetrical. Don't over tighten the nuts & bolts that secure them. DJ.
By 2010 when I built my 7, IVA was pretty specific about the wing position. I seem to remember there being guide marks on the gel coat of my wings, but if in doubt I would check with the factory. Duncan
Martin J
I was three years before you Duncan & the SVA as it was then was much more straight forward & cheaper.
DJ.
Yes, IVA is a real pain. Caterham used to have a guide just for IVA compliance that could be downloaded from their website.
Leadership Team 700newtons Posted January 25, 2015 Author Leadership Team Share Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks, I have the IVA compliance sheet from the website. No mention of cycle wing position though.I notice that, unless the wings are fairly far forward, they clip the body work when the steering is on full lock on both sides (and this looks further forward than I have seen on most photos). Is this the norm?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted January 25, 2015 Member Share Posted January 25, 2015 I notice that, unless the wings are fairly far forward, they clip the body work when the steering is on full lock on both sides (and this looks further forward than I have seen on most photos). Is this the norm?Yes, there's very little clearance and it's often not quite symmetrical at the first attempt, but there's usually a solution without any contact. Some people have discovered that they touch after fixing them... Jonathan
mikecocker
From the iva manual.1. The vehicle must be fitted with wheel guards 2. The wheel guard must extend at least 30 degrees from the centre of the wheel to the front (figure 1) 3. The wheel guard must extend at least 50 degrees from the centre of the wheel to the rear (figure 1) 4. The wheel guard must cover the full breadth of the tyre throughout the required dimensions (see note 2 & figure 1) 5. The rear of the wheel guard must not terminate above a horizontal plane of 150mm above the wheel centre. (see note1 & figure 1)

billyboanerges
Drilled and bolted very carefully first time around - star crazed around bolts even with rubber washers. Bighead fasteners and cable ties second time!Won't use bolts again.Tony
