Mavic82
I am trying to find a combination of front rear tyres with a sticky road compound but good wet weather performance. The closet I seem to be able to get are Toyo R1R. R888 and the like are to dry orientated for me. My ideal size is 225/45/15 rear - must have size for correct rolling rad. Front 205/45/15 I get close with the toyo but the front have to be either 195 or 205 /50/15. The 205 actually measures 215 according to there data sheets which won't clear the wing stays. I could go 195/45/15 to but these look a bit small under my big arches. Any suggestions of other rubber? Cheers Guy
7 wonders of the world
A fellow 7er ran R888 on 13's then swapped to R1R's on 15, he reported dry performance was nigh on the same as the R888, with only a slight difference in rubber compound, the R1R offer increased tread gauge and was in his words incredible in the wet - he toured France and encounted a couple of very heavy storms on the Autoroutes, If only Toyo offered the R1R in 13" I think they would clean up in sales He ran 195 F / 205 R on stock CC 15" on an S3 with 220BHP
Mavic82
That's great feedback thanks. I was not sure how good wet weather performance was, but that seems to be a good recommendation. I have heard a rumour that the R1R is going out of production!
Stationary M25 Traveller
I have T1R ....... after using CR500 for many (expensive) years. The corners of the tyre face are more radiused than the CR500 .... I am planning on going from 45 profile to 50 profile next change, as there is more clearance to the upright of the front wing stay than there was with the CR500. Q Catcher
Check out the write-ups that Yokahama Advan Neova AD08R's get online. And better wet ratings than R1R's.
Mavic82
Yes they look good but they don't come in Caterham friendly sizes unfortunately
