Guest
Hello, whilst fitting the interior today I noticed a few electrical cables hanging down into the passenger footwell from underneath the dash. I'm not entirely sure what they are for so if anyone could shed some light on it for me it would be appreciated. Pic of cables Many thanks Tom Edited by - Tomwoodis on 1 Sep 2013 23:04:
Steve-B
Hi Tom, Happy to try to help, but the permissions on the photos won't let me see them
Guest
Sorry Steve, think I used the wrong link. Try it again now as I've edited it Cheers Tom
Member Jonathan Kay Posted September 1, 2013 Member Share Posted September 1, 2013 Do all of the switches do something yet? I think there's an RW feed from fuse 5 to some of the switches. Jonathan
Member Jonathan Kay Posted September 1, 2013 Member Share Posted September 1, 2013 ... and fuse 14 has a P feed to "Engine loom power feed"... Jonathan
CharlesElliott
Tom - can you post the colours/trace colour on those cables? Difficult to be sure from the pic.
CharlesElliott
OK...found them. They are for a 12V accessory socket.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted September 2, 2013 Member Share Posted September 2, 2013 Why are there two feeds? Is one of them lighting-switched for socket illumination? Thanks Jonathan
CharlesElliott
Jonathan - I haven't double checked, but yes, I am pretty sure that is correct.
John Vine
Quoting CharlesElliott: OK...found them. They are for a 12V accessory socket.Yes, I agree. The wiring diagrams (righthand side) in the Assembly Guide show: Fig 217 (Sigma): Power socket B15 (black) P179 (purple) Fig 220 (Duratec - std dash): Power socket B15 (black) PG54 (purple, green trace) The other wire (RW89/RW99 -- red/white) looks like a lighting feed but I haven't traced it yet. Steve-B
I have the same two leads under the dash in our 2001 SV. I've got the double onto our Cig lighter/ power socket, and the other is just taped up doing nothing. So it appears that validates the consensus. Guest
Well done everyone you are all spot on and thanks for the quick replies as always! I've checked and indeed the additional 3rd wire is for illumination on the off chance that what you hook up is a cigratte lighter with an illuminated ring of some kind. Thanks Tom

pugwash
Thats handy to know. In my Sigma Supersport the same cables appear in the boot. I have seen some cars with a power socket mounted in the rear bulkhead and this is the cabling. I always wondered about the third cable as nothing happened when I put a meter on it. Now I can have what every Caterham needs - a boot light! 😬
