David Lynch
...stripped the thread out of a K cylinder head where Caphead used instead of stud at Primary 4 close to water rail/sensor?....Grr Top tips please M8x1.5 Helicoil kit is on it's way but going to be fun getting in there without lifting engine. Angle drive, short drill?
Stationary M25 Traveller
You may be able to hold the drill bit in a tap wrench, as the ali head is relatively soft. You aren't removing much material. Alternatively a right angled drive. Don't drill too deep !!! 😳
garybee
These are larger than m8 on a k unless rover changed at some point. From memory I believe they are m10.
Mankee
Yes, they are M10, same spec as the manual tensioner securing bolt. Never had to repair that without the head removed, thankfully. You could unbolt the engine/gearbox from the mounts and lift it up or rotate it to get a better angle of attack?
Englishmaninwales
David Given all the aggro, especially if you have a race chassis without a removeable crossmember, it might be easier lift the cylinder head off and do it on the bench?
