best tyres for winter use

Fordy - if you still want to stick with a level of grippy tyre in the dry tyre then either the cr500 or yoko 21 sounds like what you could be after.

If however you are looking for even better wet weather perrfomance at the expense of dry weather grip then any of the list 1a tyres should suit. I used to have a539's (yoko) and they where excellent in the wet, ok in the dry

Another vote for Yoko 21Rs. Have found them to be a good all round tyre despite the fact that they are strictly a wet weather tyre.

Glad we didn't disappoint you *smile*

George Polley only charges £10 next day delivery IIRC. They are now based in March, Cambridgeshire so may well be worth a trip from Essex as GP only charged me £3 fitting etc per wheel although that was 18 months ago.

"Standard" size tyre for a 6 / 14" wheel is 185/60 R14. Good luck trying to find some 21s; I bought what seemed to be the last 2 in the country a couple of weeks ago (even George Polley couldn't get hold of them).

I second everyone who has recommended 21s. I drive my Seven every day, all year round, and 21s are the best all-round tyre I've tried (32s are also great, A539s are average, Goodyear NCTs were awful).

AO21R's worked well on Targa-Liege 2002 this year in the following:

rain, hail, snow, sleet, black ice, mud, dirt, loose tarmac *eek*, and COW SH*T

the latter was like a combination of the first 5 together, proof pictures on
