SV Gary
At a Donington track evening last Monday myself and 2 other r400 drivers measured our tyre temps using a Fluke thermal imaging camera - see typical image below http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6025/5980496523_291351abed_m.jpg All tyre temps were within 1 degree of each other in the range 45.4 - 46.3 so pretty consistent except that my front drivers side which was at 50.7. Possible wheel bearing issue?
Pezky
I would have thought the nearside front would be hotter as the circuit is clockwise rotation.... are you sure you were going the right way round
Miltec
That sounds correct to me, more right hand turns means more work for the left tire
SV Gary
I agree about right hand track causing left hand wheel to be more loaded and hence run hotter but the 2 other R400s had both left and right fronts were within 1 degree and it was my right front that was 50.7 degrees and my left front that was 46 degrees - see images below: Left front http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6025/5980704153_60376af10d_m.jpg Right front http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6127/5981262376_88145dab29_m.jpg Confused ???? myothercarsa2cv
To me, and I am no expert, your right front looks to have more contact with the road - the gradient is quite good across the tyre, whereas the left front has a sharp transition from hot to warm, which would suggest that it's only contacting on the inside edge. Have you checked the geometry with you in the car?
SV Gary
I agree - geometry check is my first port of call.
myothercarsa2cv
Also, worth noting that the scales are different, and the spot temperature looks to be the centre of the frame and not necessarily a corresponding point on each tyre?
Mike Biddle
Tyre pressure? An under inflated tyre will get hot in a hurry.
