virden
Almost there, just the diff oil level to check! Will someone please tell me the size of Allen key that fits the diff drain plug And After filling until it starts to spill out how much extra oil is recommended for road use? Thanks
James_Russell
If it's an Ital axle (?) you need an 8mm Allen bit to unscrew the filler. In the race car I simply jack the back of the car as high as I can get it and pour as much oil as possible in! As you say it will vent some so I replaced the plastic breather tube with a brake bleed nipple with some rubber tubing pushed onto it- this way the oil can be directed into a catch tank or you can loop it under the boot floor. CaterBram
when I did mine, drained it, removed the breather, filled it slowly by pooring through the breather hole until full and then fitted a breather pipe which looped upto the boot floor. Graham Sewell
For road use, just fill until it starts to weap out of the hole. If you were using it for track days, then oil surge down the legs can lead to premature wear. At least that is all I have ever done, and 16 years/38,000 miles and it is still intact. Eugene
removed the breather, filled it slowly by pooring through the breather hole until full Eeek! I really hope you don't mean you filled it until it WAS FULL up to the breather level???? As James says, jack up the rear as high as you can and fill through the filler until it weeps.
