  1. It's development- I was recently told at an industry forum that Shell is years ahead of the competition when it comes to developing the best high octane fuel.
  2. I've driven a LA car on standard 'Spax' dampers and it was lovely
  3. Considering taxes and shipping, it may well be most cost effective to have a radiator manufactured over in the states 😶‍🌫️
  4. Hi Matt What are the symptoms? Also, have you tested it directly off a battery using jump leads? this would eliminate the possibility that you have a battery problem, or excessive resistance in your wiring. Anyway, if it is a starter motor you need, I would suggest considering taking yours in for repair at an automotive rotating electrics place. I've used a place near me for alternators and starter motors before, Caterham and tintop, they have even successfully fixed the fancy Brise high performance lightweight starter in Dad's mega. It's an old fashioned business so my attitude is use them or lose them! The benefits are that you get your same part back so you can be sure it'll fit, you'll get a receipt which acts as a warranty, and the cost will be much lower than even the cheapest nastiest motor factors chinese copy part.
  5. Can confirm they are all 7/16ths UNF.
  6. Simular experience to Paul with EBC brakes. Also I believe grooved discs are unnecessary if you are using a road/fast road pad like 'Greenstuff', usually they make more noise and they're weaker to boot. I recommend a mild brake friction material upgrade with standard discs, that's what is racers use on the very heavily used brakes on 150bhp race cars. Remember to change the fluid if it's over 2 years old, too. DOT 4 is fine. For fast road/trackday use, Mintex 1144 is the usual recommendation.
  7. Probably got a 2008 or newer a539 with 3mm or more... I'm a long ole' way away though!
  8. An ex-competitor has a pair of 40 DCOE webers for sale on eBay here. They're jetted for the 1.6 8v Vauxhall engine but suitable for so many others with a few quid spending on parts.
  9. Quoting Gridgway: Quoting James_Russell: I thought we might be talking kids & dogs territory! *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* *eek* I'll check with Jen tomorrow. It's local I guess? Ha! 😬 The car's in Banstead ETA: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s210/James_Russell48/d3b804c5.jpg Edited by - James_Russell on 6 Aug 2012 22:08:46
  10. Dave, the seller (ex neighbour, dad's best mate!) was very vague on the phone but with the time constraint and the fact he doesn't have time to prepare it in any way, I'd expect it may well be havable within your budget which makes it quite a bargain. Dad wants me to have it because it's more sensible than my old BMW, but I like my car and wouldn't want an Auto. Desirable to a 24 year old? No, probably not... When you said mid-sized hatch, I thought we might be talking kids & dogs territory!
  11. A family friend is selling a Rover 75 CDTI estate with the BMW diesel engine and an auto 'box. He's emigrating on Friday so there may be a bargain to be had? The only options unticked when they bought it new was sat-nav and cruise control if I remember rightly. It's a 2003 car with 67k. P.S it's not all about insurance groups- its always worth getting a quote because some cars are unlikely enough to attract the typical young driver's premium (says the 23 year old with the old BMW 525i!) 12. Pretty sure the tank wants to be withdrawn in an upwardly direction, which may or may not necessitate roll bar / cage removal. If I remember correctly, you have an x-flow/live axle car? Not a great deal of fire risk but it would be prudent to disconnect the battery or kill the electrics before you start. EDIT: this is obvious, and I'm sorry- but remember that water won't kill a flammable liquid fire. If you're really worried about fire, have a Foam extinguisher to hand. 13. A brilliant drive Mark. It's good you can peel off that novice cross now because you are way past that! I found it easy to trust your driving in close quarters, even at Thruxton speeds. I recall even leaving a bit of room for you should you wish to go up the inside at Church (100mph+ full throttle bumpy right-hander for the uninitiated!) Although I was disappointed with my results from a championship perspective (although I still cling on to 3rd... for now!) I had great fun in race 2, it was exactly as classics should be. It was as if we were battling for podiums rather than 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th! Quoting Mark Gibson: the front car of the group loses the tow Indeed. This was my problem- I was quick through the two chicanes and Seagrave, so I could pass in the first half of the lap. but I think my lines through Goodwood could've been better, so by the time we all got down to club, we were 3 abreast ready to do it all again! I did consider letting everybody past on penultimate lap so I could benefit from the tow, but I chickened out and just tried to stay in front- Luckily only James C was able to get past (and he's a lap-record holding driver in a lap-record holding car) Anyway, congratulations Mark and although you aren't racing again this year, I look forward to driving against Matthew for the rest of the season
  14. This is my source. The temperatures were measured using an external probe-y thing. Bear in mind the 80 deg+ figure was a bellhousing dry sump car after a 30 minute track session. Temperatures would be lower without the dry sump.
