Slipper man
People are normally surprised by the fact that it doesn't come on the cam aggressively. Above 5, and especially 6, it is on full song, but below that it is still giving good power. The only problem is a hole in the torque curve at 3,000-4,000 rpm. Why do you ask? anthonym
I need as little noise as pissible starting at 32mph then wide open throttle for 66 feet, must achieve 36mph (ie 61kph) then release. In third gear only. So i do NOT want it to find the cam. Life as i know it depends on this.
Sheds Moderator
Evening Anthony. If it's a 5 speed box and std diff. then at 36mph it will be at about 2000-2500 rpm so MILES off the cam. I'd say having been in your car (is it still the same one?) that it will be barely running at those speeds. My 1.4SS used to run like a 3 legged dog under 2k, pick up and run normally about 3, get exciting after 4, then all hell broke loose at 5k and it howled off for the redline . In 2nd 5k was about 50mph, 3rd was 70ish and 4th was illegal.
Clousta
Anthony, I can't offer any technical advice on your engine but the challenge that you have set yourself or have been set is intriguing in the the extreme. Please, stop the suspense and explain! My early morning maths (sorry I had to convert to metric to do it) indicates that from your start speed (and not taking into account any subsequent acceleration) you will cover that 66 feet in 1.4 seconds. So you could go an time yourself in 3rd gear from that start speed to get an indication. I am sure that despite the off cam operation it will increase speed by 4 mph. Sheds Moderator
Anthony is in Switzerland, I suspect it's some kind of noise test for their equivalent of the MoT or registration or similar.

charlie_pank
How is 'wide open throttle' determined? There are motorbikes that have 'early' throttle stops fitted by the manufacturer to comply with power regulations in other EU countries - just a thought... simonpa
Do you have an airbox? I ran with a Pipercross 600 airboc for a while and it cut the noise massively. Seemed to affect the top end a bit, but generally not too intrusive (except losing the intake howl..
Adrian Williams
5.5k At 5k mine makes 120 bhp, at 5.5k it's only climbed to 125 bhp. However by the time it gets to 6.5k it's making 175 and then 210 at 7.5k. Adrian
Slipper man
Why don't you install the underfloor system and air box for the test? It would pass easily. You could borrow mine for a couple of months if that helps
Tom White
Anthony, If your having problems with the MFK, try TCS they are allowed to carry out MFK and tend to be a bit more understanding. Another alternative is to test in another Kanton. Have you failed the MFK with noise or are you preparing. Tom
anthonym
thanks slipper man and tom white; I installed as suggested and changed SCN/MFK location. Now have certified pass for both noise (few days ago) and emissions (just today) , so merely the actual test to undergo now.
