bobt Posted February 11, 2011 Share Posted February 11, 2011 In the process of performing a complete rebuild on my 2000 superlight I've found a minor (5-7mm long) crack at the base of the weld on the pass side shock mount on the dedion tube (the mount is on the underside of the tube). Now I know this is a known issue but is the general consensus to replace the tube (its 11years old but rust free) rather than have the crack welded? MADMALC Posted February 11, 2011 Share Posted February 11, 2011 I had a large tear repaired and the strengtheners fitted to both sides and it took less than 1 hour. Better than new. For guidance on the strengtheners look here. here I had waxoiled my tube from new so inside it was still fresh. Re waxoiled after the repair. I've just noticed a small (couple of cm) brown (rust) hairline crack under the pass side suspension upright welded mounting lug. I presume this can be welded and reinforced without the need for a new Dedion tube?? Can this be done with the tube in situ with the damper units removed or has the tube got to be removed??? Johnty Lyons Posted October 5, 2011 Share Posted October 5, 2011 BE VERY VERY CAREFUL WELDING YOUR CRACKED DE DION IF THE CRACKS HAVE OPENED UP AT ALL THE EARS WILL BE OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND WITHOUT A JIG YOU WILL FIND IT DIFFICULT TO REALIGN CORRECTLY.
