Area Representative Tin Man Posted August 30, 2010 Area Representative Share Posted August 30, 2010 Finished re-fitting the engine today on my K series with the Pace dry sump pan. When torquing the bots up I found that I had stripped the thead on the lower bell housing to sump bolt (M10 x 55 I think) 😳 😳 😳 Any ideas on the best solution 🤔 Thank you Regards John Edited by - tin man on 30 Aug 2010 17:44:
CageyH
Helicoil or similar. There is another thread repair system that may be better, but I can't think what it is. Only dead fish go with the flow....!

Area Representative Tin Man Posted August 30, 2010 Author Area Representative Share Posted August 30, 2010 Does this mean that I will nned to take the engine out again *mad* Regards John
spiderlane
I'm not quite sure of the geometry or access, but I would expect that you could do it in-situ. The general process with these solutions is to drill out the hole, tap a new (larger than original) thread, fit the insert and then put the original bolt back in (or a replacement). If you can get the access, then I don't think you'd need to have the engine out. Mark
CageyH
I think the drilling stage may mean you have to take the engine back out again ☹️ Only dead fish go with the flow....!
micksmetafors
Would it not be feasible to drop the sump and fit the helicoil?
Area Representative Tin Man Posted August 31, 2010 Author Area Representative Share Posted August 31, 2010 Didn't have my brain in gear yesterday after a long day with the spanners. I can drop the sump. The Timesert looks the best option, does anyone know what size I would require? Thank you Regards John
CageyH
Measure the bolt. You should be able to tell from that. Only dead fish go with the flow....!
Area Representative Tin Man Posted September 3, 2010 Author Area Representative Share Posted September 3, 2010 Found a good local engineering company who will fit the Timeserts for me. Thanks for the advice. Regards John
