Mercedes 190e 2.3-16 cosworth - Tin Top

Well its time to say goodbye to the Cossie, having driven it 64miles every day for the past 1-2years (well except when I was in the seven 😬) its time to finally get the practical car I promised my wife I would get before picking up the cossie (Baby no.1 on the way) so searching for a 2001 BMW 330d Touring in case you know of one about *cool* !! To this day I still believe it is the practical car I said it was, but maybe doing some of the original re-build in the conservatory lost me that argument.... 😔

*smile*

Its a Black/Grey C'reg variety with 165k miles a bit rough around the edges but original and has had the whole rear subframe removed sand blasted, along with new thrust and control bars. New anti-roll bars, new discs, bearings pads etc. New springs.

Full black leather inside

Manual

Air con - although needs re-gassing/converting

Electric Sunroof

2 year old full front to back exhaust system

Original Wheels with Proxy 1s

Rear Self Levelling suspension fully functioning

Momo steering wheel - Original is impossible to drive if you can actually get your legs underneath it.

Its a modern day classic (takes some persueding sometimes unless you are in the know) lovely engine revs away, cruises up and down the A1 beautifully and will do about 400miles on a fill up (65 litres) The handling is where the fun is, I have the self levelling suspension set a bit soft at the moment but its easy to adjust to taste.

Bodywork.... hmmmm well this is where its showing its age paintwork on the front doors is not great (flaking off on one spot) although I have two replacement doors that I wanted to spray up and replace them with that I'll throw in. Couple of small rust spots around the wheel arches...

There is a load of history and bills that comes with it oh and even still has the original first aid kit.

Price - as close to £2000 as I can get, bought it for more than that and enjoyed spending every penny on the replacement parts as its been a joy to work on and driving.

Only ever let me down once... but that was my fault for not attaching the battery cable correctly

Anyway - drop me a mail if you want to join the list of those that understand what these cars are about and are interested in owning it for part of its life.

Yes RHD, it was only the EVO I & II specials that came with the full on body kits and LHD only.

It also has the Getrag dog leg gear box, 1st bottom left, 2nd straight up, 3rd straight down, 4th top right, 5th bottom right. Makes me look like a real numpty when I start using a standard config.... *smile*

It was a racing configuration as it was considered that on track you would spend most of your time in 2nd or 3rd (the gear change markers on the speedo are scary)

Just like the 2cv! Only way to have it, so much easier for normal driving... Makes changes nice and quick! I'd have it if I didn't think my parents were going to chuck me out for making their home look like a showroom forecourt... 😬

Lurk

They range in value, there was a Mercedes show room one that went for £8.5K that you would have been scared to breath on, I've seen an immaculate one sell for £5.5k but examples with good body work tend to go for around £3-4k.

Mine has many of the key suspension and brakes all renovated but the body work is not great, its probably worth more than £2k but I've had so much value out of it that if I get £2k I would be happy.

You do get them on ebay coming up for less than that but they are usually snapped up and broken up. You could sell the set of leather seats alone for £500+. The rest have been modified, lowered, had the SLS removed, pimped etc. It would be really sad to see mine broken up but I'll put it in auto trader soon and hopefully find it a new home.

I bought mine for £1500 - 98k mile one owner car, 2 years ago. Fantastic condition, full leather 2.3-16. Agreed value of £4500 - which was lucky as it was written off the day after the agreed value came through!

Market for these cars at the moment is very, very, very, very slow. I know people who have had to sit on their cars for months and some very nice cars have sold recently for less than £2k - mercedes190.co.uk and mbclubuk for evidence of this. Bear that in mind when pricing your car David and ebay it with a safe reserve for you for an indication of what it is worth in today's market.
