Willie. Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Hello... Does anyone know what year Caterham started fitting chassis with bosses at both sides for the cage/petty strut? My '94 car has a boss for a petty strut on the passenger side...I'm wondering if it will have the boss on the drivers side too. I could take a few rivets out and check, but if anyone knows it would save me some work. Willie
rgrigsby Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Not sure by my 1992 car didn't have one, Bruce welded one (well three actually!) in in a "while you wait" style service on a Saturday morning Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com
Willie. Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Rob, How'd he weld them in with the outer skin still in place? Did he MIG them? Willie
I reply to every thread Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 I'm fairly convinced (from a measure and poke exercise) that my 94 chassis (made in 97) has one. That's not very helpful is it 🤔 I'll know in 10 days when we try & fit the cage................
captain chaos Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Anoraks at the ready... Anyone know the thread type for the bolt that is required to attach a cage/petty bar. I'm not near my car and I'm going to a fasteners place for some bits today... cheers Gary
Drumster Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 My 1992 chassis only has the petty strut boss, nothing on the driver's side. Chris Alston C7CAT 1800 Supersprint R248.89 ....and then I jumped in
Tyrone Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Since I will be the proud owner of a full cage early in November and I have an '87 chassis I'm quite interested to know the answer from Rob to Willie's question? NE Area Rep Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here
Irrelevant Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Race chassis should have them. Road chassis might have them. My 1992 road chassis had them all The only way you're going to know for sure is to look. If you don't have them, it's simple getting them added by either Arch (brazed on) or anyone with a MIG welder.
Willie. Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Thanks to everyone for their help. The only definite way of finding out is going to be pulling out a few rivets and having a peak. I'll do this in the next couple of days and let everyone know my findings. Maybe even do it tonight. Willie
Willie. Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Well, I just drilled out a few rivets and...mine has it. YAAHOOO. Ahem* It's a 94 De Dion, which started life as a 1.4 Supersport. You'll only be able to tell by taking the rivets out. The sill protector holds the inner panel out so that it sounds hollow...and the outer panel is tight because its flush to the joint of tubes. stevefoster Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Prob too late now but the bolt size for the bush is 7/16" UNF x 2.75" long Edited by - stevefoster on 19 Oct 2007 21:17:06
