speed sensor unit- anyone used the cheaper/available from Burton? SORTED

good morning

i need to replace my broken speed sensor but it not available from caterham :

i have spotted this one from burton but i don't know if the specs are similar. this has 3 wires but this can be modified as long as the pulse per revolutions are the same.

for those who might be interested, both caterham and burton sensor are 8 pulses per revolution.

the burton's style is a ford part fitted on mondeo/ focus/fiesta

you need to buy the sensor boss as well as thread are not the same. straight fit but you have to put the third wire to the earth.

much cheaper than the CC parts.

On this subject, does anyone know what the 2 wires (light green and red/blue) are on the original sensor? I think the blue/red is the signal wire but unsure about the light green wire? Both wires go to the speedo gauge.

Unsure if the light green is +12v or to ground?

Simon,  thanks for the reply, both were connected into the old gauge but I am wiring in a new gauge and this is the set up of the new connector.

Im happy that red/blue goes to pin7 (red blue) for 2 wire sensors.

I've read that light green is +12v and also been told it would normally be to earth.

I would ground the green one independently and try it. The sensor makes its own voltage to produce the signal, if it were going into an ecu it would have the signal to one pin and the other to a ground. That’s what is probably happening in its normal installation. It’s either going to work or not. Can’t hurt the sensor. Don’t connect it to power though

#1 Hi Antonio. If this is the sensor you are talking about, I fitted one to my last Caterham, a 1.6 K series. You'll need the adapter as well, increases the cost significantly but it's still cheaper than the Caterham part. And, of course, should the new one ever fail you won't need the adapter. 

Can't remember the specifics of connecting the wiring now, but it wasn't difficult. The thing that sticks in my mind is what a bloody awkward job it is laying underneath the car to remove/fit the sensors. I'd also recommend using some thread lock when you put it all together. The adapter can rotate undone.
