  1. Thanks aerobod, Excellent news. I suspected/hoped it would be okay but its way beyond my understanding..... Cheers, Andy
  2. Thanks again Jonathan. I've now ordered the Lifeline unit as posted earlier in this thread. The lights specification includes the following details: Power supply: External 9 to 14Vdc Power consumption: 8.4W, 700mA @ 12v As the unit will take up to 14V it looks to me that it may be okay....but then I now absolutely nothing! Any thoughts?
  3. Thanks again Jonathan. The light would only be it ended for road use so the rain light element wouldn't be necessary. Apologies for this but if I'm understanding you correctly, an LED rain light would be need a resistor, either built in or separate to the unit? How would you know if it's built in or not or would you be totally reliant on the instructions? Andy
  4. Jonathan, thanks for the prompt reply. The light I have in mind is this one: https://caterhamparts.co.uk/rear-lights/5476-rain-light-race.html Quite expensive but seems the business. Andy
  5. Hi, I'm still deliberating (and inept) on which light to use as a third brake light. I know a number of owners have used rain lights, which is what I'm leaning towards. I've heard it mentioned there's a need to include a resistor or something within the wiring. Can anyone advise one what, if anything, is required to adapt/change the usage? Cheers, Andy
  6. I'd been wondering about drilling the bar to hide the cable. I too doubt very much it would compromise the bars effectiveness. Does anyone know if the diagonals are simply butt welded to the main frame ie so there's no hole to thread through? Andy
  7. Many thanks for the response. I have considered fitting a strip-light to the top rail but as I haven't yet got a half hood. Ideally I'd still like to keep the option to use the full hood in the future, so would prefer to fit something lower. One of the suggested options looks good were a round race light has been installed behind the "X". I'll give this some more thought. I've seen it said that LED race light need an inline resistor. Can anyone suggest a suitable example and where it could be obtained - I'm totally inept! I quite like the look of the below which shouldn't be overly big and obscure too much if installed vertically. This one can be set to flash, so would a resistor still be required if used as a brake light? https://caterhamparts.co.uk/rear-lights/5476-rain-light-race.html Thanks again, Andy
  8. Hi all, I'm currently looking for a high(er) level brake light for road use. There's lots of different options out there but I'm wondering if anyone has tried Caterham's race brake light: https://caterhamparts.co.uk/rear-lights/5677-race-brake-light-unit-assy.html At the moment this is my preferred solution but I'm just a little concerned about the legality and aesthetics of the install. Ideally I would like to fit a light around the "X" in the FIA roll bar. Any thoughts and a photo of fitted example that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Andy
  9. Thanks Guys. Yes I meant CC recommended the "towing" eye for lifting the front....DOH! As usual many carried responses. My car is ZZS tyres and I can recall a recent comment on Pistonheads were someone had experienced flat spotting on these tyres after only a few weeks. This got me thinking....
  10. Hi all, Daft newbie question here.... I intend taking my car off the road for the worst of the winter months and want to store it on axle stands. Lifting the rear is fine but once backs up there's no way I can get my jack to the cruciform. I don't really want to remove the nose cone as it would be difficult to replace once lifted. When collecting my S3 car from CC I was told they lift the front from the jacking eye, and it shows the marks. Does this sound okay? I've noted the club guides suggest this is acceptable for the CSR only.
  11. My VW tin top doesn't have front side lights, it simply relies upon the DLR lights. It only adds rear lights when the dash switch is operated.
  12. I'm currently considering joining the world of Caterham ownership after twenty years of admiring them. I’ve recently seen and test driven a low mileage 1800VX Beaulieu. The car wasn’t as cosmetically good as I’d hoped but felt with a bit of TLC it would scrub up well and be what I’m after. However one thing is bothering me and that’s the low speed running; it was coughing and spluttering unless it was fully on song, particularly when going on and off the throttle. I was told this is the normal with the carb fed engines (due to the relatively small capacity and large 40 Webbers) and was unlikely to improve a great deal after the car had been serviced. As I’m very much a novice with these cars and my only real experience is with large capacity motorbikes, of which I’ve never had a problem with the carbs being set up properly. I’m puzzled, is this normal?
