  1. Lots of earlier threads on this - try a search. Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  2. Never had any problems with it -as long as you don't keep using it! Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  3. I did the same thing with a dead badger, getting airborne at about 90 . I left the underside of the car until the crud had dried and/or been washed off by the elements, but the annual service that year was not the most pleasant experience . Go for the jetwash and quick Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  4. I had a very small leak on my rad and ran some Radweld through the system. It is still fine 5 years later, including several flush throughs. Try re seating first, but this may be a good back up Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  5. Rowly, I can check these from the handbook tonight if you wish; mine is the same spec. You may have to wait until tomorrow though 'cos Im going Karting tonight 😬 😬 😬 Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  6. Exactly the point Adam . But it is nice to be able to see properly before you hit whatever it is. Anyone got any answers out there 🤔 Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  7. Thanks Steve, but what I am worried about is not the brightness, but whether I am lighting up one filament instead of two when using Main beam. Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  8. I keep forgetting this until the clocks go back! Lights on dipped beam are fine, but on switching to main beam, I get the main beam bit all right, but the 'dipped' area is no longer illuminated, and it gets difficult to spot the kerbs. The lights are properly set for height etc., but it looks as if I am getting either dipped or main but not both. Is this normal? On the tin top both dipped and main beam seem to be on at the same time. Any thoughts Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  9. Harold, More details please. What do you mean by a 'platform' (before I spend hours looking for one in Halfords) and how does it attach? Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  10. Rog, Do a search on chit chat under Roger King? I posted a similar query a couple of months or so ago and received extensive advice. Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  11. Having finally decided to give up on my old driving shoes (i.e a very old pair of deck shoes), and buy some Sparco driving boots, I can't heel and toe any more ❗ The problem is that the outside of the boot is narrower than my old shoes and misses the accelerator on the down change. It is possible to heel and toe, but after a month of trying I still can't do it with confidence. My proposed solution is to bend the accelerator pedal a fraction closer to the brake pedal, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas before I start knocking things around. I have also fiddled around with the brake pedal height but without success. Any ideas welcome terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  12. Seems odd that the smoke is coming from the drivers side. It usually comes from oil contact with the the hot exhaust. If you haven't got an engine breather on the crankcase, I would say it is oil blowing back through the head or possibly the dipstick. Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  13. No problems, but don't call me slighty! 😬 😬 Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  14. Thanks for all the advice guys - what a helpful lot you all are as usual 😬 Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  15. Roger, Thanks for the advice. I will talk to Burton's to see what they can do. Don't suppose you are missing engine building so much that.............maybe not Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  16. Yes please. I assume from what you say that your engine has no c/case breather either? Sounds as though you may be near me in any event - East Grinstead? Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  17. Alex, Does that Stack model fit into the same aperture as the traditional round dial? terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  18. Peter, It is a standard 1600 110bhp XF. It has 23k on the clock so I do anticipate some wear and blowback past the rings, and there is slight evidence of this in normal road use, so there is some wear evident. The problem yesterday was much more extensive, with considerable amounts of oil being chucked out. Forgive my ignorance, but how does a breather in the rocker cover help crankcase pressure. Surely it would only be effective once the pressure had escaped from the crankcase via the rings 🤔. Terry Q783 OOR. Team Lotus colours with flares.
  19. Had problems at Brands yesterday with oil blowing back through the filler and possibly the dipstick, and making a hell of a mess on the engine and screen. Fortunately no great amount went on the track. Mine is a later 1.6 AX block which does not have a crankcase breather, and I assume that the extra pressure associated with continual high revs was what caused the problem, although the engine may also have been slightly overfilled due to dipstick calibration problems. I assume the answer is to retro fit a breather, but would appreciate advice on the following: 1.Is the diagnosis of the cause likely to be correct 🤔 2. How easy is it to fit the breather onto the crankcase. Is it just a case of prising out the plug which is there now. or will it be necessary to have a hole drilled and tapped 🤔. 3. I would connect the breather back into the rocker cover, so what diameter pipe would I use 🤔 4. Who is the best source for the bits 🤔 I assume Burton's could help. Any advice would be appreciated. 20. I have had this problem on both speedo and tacho and had them sorted by Speedy Cables who now operate out of Swansea. If you can't find an instrument repairer I can give you their number. I think it cost about £40 a time, but it is much cheaper than a new instrument. You can take them apart yourself, by gently levering off the black bezel which is crimped onto the body, but it is virtually impossible to do it without causing some minor damage or, as in my case, cracking the glass . Having had them fixed a couple of years ago, there have been no more problems. Terry Trying to get out of the garage
  21. Castrol. That would be great if you could Terry Trying to get out of the garage
  22. The spring fits betrween the two carbs, so the new lever takes the place of the old one under the balance screw. If this disturbs the screw some rebalancing may be needed, but this isn't a problem. Sounds like I will have to make up a bracket to support the spring. Terry Trying to get out of the garage
  23. I intend to fit a second return spring on the XFlow '40's at the weekend. Is it a simple case of bending back the washer and removing the nut from the spindle, then sliding on the additional lever and reinstating the nut and tab washer 🤔 Attaching the second spring at the top end looks easy enough, but where do you attach the lower end. The original spring is located in a small bracket attached to the dipstick outer sleeve, but there is no romm for a second spring. Aaprt from having to balance the carbs afterwards, what other pitfalls might there be? Terry Trying to get out of the garage
  24. Interested to hear that fuel may be available on site. My XFlow will certainly need a top up Can anyone give chapter and verse on the availability of fuel at the circuit 🤔 If it is not available I am pretty sure there is a garage near the circuit if you need it, but again can anyone confirm this and the type of fuel sold 🤔 See you at Wootton Hatch tonight Terry Trying to get out of the garage
  25. It is a standard 1.6 X Flow. I topped the oil up to the full mark before the run, but it wasn't over full, and I always run it at that level. I do get a bit of vapour through the filler normally, but this was just as if 1/4 pint of pure oil had been forced out of the filler - very messy Terry Trying to get out of the garage
