  1. Ian (And Bill), many thanks for your input. I will download the service manual this evening. Out of interest, our local Lotus Dealer has quoted £337 for the whole job: Remove bodywork, replace both headlamps (The reflectors have gone flaky as it happens), repair the bracket (A common problem apparently) then reassemble. I guess the cost is not too bad for that kind of work if you include both headlights. Anyway, we will make a judgement after reading the manual. Thanks again for your help
  2. I feel a bit guilty about posting this after all the help we got with the oil consumption query 😳 This time, it's about access to the headlamp mounting on my son's Elise. The offside headlamp does not seem to be fixed on the outside edge - It can be pushed back into the recess on that side. We are a bit stuck because there is no workshop manual available, we wondered how to gain access to the mounting of the headlamp assembly. A grommit in the wheel arch allows access to the bulb holder but does not allow access to the mounting it's self. Any clues how to get access without dismantling the bodywork? ☹️ By the way, my son's car is not the heap that it sounds, it's just a Lotus visit Carrotland.co.uk
  3. Excellent! Thank you all very much 😬 😬 😬
  4. Been in touch with Jason - What a helpful bloke! Diagnosis is that this level of oil consumption is normal and not to worry. No mix of oil and water. I just wondered whether other 1.8K users have this level of consumption. I certainly do not get it on my 1.6K Caterham. Any views anyone?
  5. Nifty, could you email me with Jason's contact details? Thanks
  6. My son has an S1 1.8 Elise with 52k on the clock. In the last 6k miles it has consumed 2.5 litres of oil ☹️ With engine running, coolant is pumped from small top hose into expansion tank (Is this normal?) In the summer, engine got very hot (Close to maximum) when stationary in motorway traffic. I am guessing that the dreaded head gasket has failed but wondered what the definitive test is (Before we involve expensive Lotus Dealer)
  7. And Sunday love songs..... Balls now locktite'd in place and getting a nice firm ride. 😳 visit Carrotland.co.uk

  9. Thanks for the advice, Dave Just phoned CC, balls and bushes now on the way visit Carrotland.co.uk
  10. 1996 K-Series Road Spec car - I am replacing the original 3/8" Anti Roll Bar with 1/2" I've received the new ARB from CC and now wondering whether I should have ordered new balls and bushes. What are the chances of getting the old ones transferred without damage? visit Carrotland.co.uk
  11. James Sorry about the highjack 😳 I really need to speak to you urgently about the SAN. Could you call me in the Office? Thanks

  13. Ian, having trouble with your email address. Could you email pictures to me? (Click on the email icon) Cheers
  14. The link works. Thanks. We'll look at it this evening.
  15. I'm not being nosey, Nifty. I'm looking for a car for Colin. Serious enquiry. Any pictures, or link to Pistonheads page?
  16. Can't find pics on Pistonheads. Could you provide link or email them? Ta!
  17. Jim let me drive his car on one occasion. Very smooth, free revving, torqy and fast! Well engineered too, and featured in one of the Caterham books. I forget the title at the moment, will try to find it.
  18. Try not to grin. Trouble is, it's impossible! 😬
  19. Thanks everybody for the answers. Looks like I will take a Stanley knife to them tonight. It's just a pity that Caterham let themselves down by the little things. Maybe they should take notice and also add more angle to the perspex. Or perhaps devise a bracket with side mirrors attached ❗ Nifty, thanks for the offer. I will pop round sometime and compare mine with yours I've never had to much trouble without side screens at all. Once you get over 80 mph it seems to top out and not get any worse. My glasses stay on, but mainly because I spent hours in Boots choosing the tightest frames (The Optician wanted to adjust them for me so they were not so tight!) Here's to a Spring and Summer of minimalist blatting 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬
