    crb

what does this sound like to you..... when the car gets hot (trackday session hot) towards the end there a slight grinding sensation through the clutch pedal and a slight squeal when engaging the clutch.....beginnings of a faulty CRB? if so is this covered under warranty?
  4. Dave 68 do you know what te quote included, I intend to provide the diff as is. Did your quote include fitting to the car? cheers steve
  5. Thanks Dave 1st winter upgrade decided upon
  6. I know LSD's have been done to death however no-ones reallty mentioned what typical costs are involved. I've got a dedion with standard open diff (2003) and want to know what costs I would be looking at to get someone like road and race transmissions to upgrade my current diff to a ZF? Anyone know.....Angus?

    Black Smoke

Just thought I would ask the people in the know regarding my car. When blipping the throttle quickly from idle black smoke can be seen exiting from the exhaust. Its only when blipping and not under high sustained revs for example. Is this just a rich mixture? The car is a 1.8k 140 with 3k miles and has not used a drop of oil over that period. Just thought I'd check to see if they all do that sir or I need to get it looked at. cheers steve
  9. Just thought I'd drop a quick line on a recent experience Carried out an oil change with appollo and when warm the oil level was just over max on the dip stick. When cold the oil level was about half way, I'm sure this was the same as pre oil change. Anyways the oil temp on track and road has always crept up to about 100 when giving it some stick. After reading a few posts I managed to drain some oil out of the sump plug so that the oil when hot now reads bang in the middle of the dip stick. The oil temp now reads a good 5-10 degrees lower which is has got to be a good thing Moral of the story is don't get carried away when topping up Just thought it might interest a few people out there about to do the basics like me. stevo
  10. Just did mine with the help of: http://www.alcester-racing-sevens.com/oil-change_pt__1.htm I have found that when cold on start up the oil level is just below half, when warm this is just over the full mark so go careful on pouring all the black stuff in. ( I should of poured slightly less in by the look of it...ho hum) Is it just me or does everyone else find it rather scary starting up for the first time after the oil change
  11. that was a can of worms 😬
  12. Interesting idea, however the aprilia has horendous servicing costs 😳
  13. maybe I'm not quite such a lard arse as I first thought, won't tell the wife though
  14. 8.89kg working from home today, just weighed my newly delivered 18560 14's on the bathroom scales...your timing asking that question was impecable 😬
  15. I've got the standard brake setup on a 1.8k and was just wondering how many miles the standard pads last assuming a 50/50 mix of trackdays and road miles. so chaps what dya reckon?
  16. I've just bought these so its good to hear you rate them (also swapping for zv1's). I'm off to the ring and back next month so I hope they last the distance 😬
  17. I've got a 1.8 k with an apollo, will all the old oil just drian through the sump plug or will I need to do something else to get all the old oil out the system in the apollo? (I assume all the oil just drains into the sump when the engines turned off) cheers stevo

    oil

I'm sure this has been done to death but can someone give me a definative answer? I have a 140 1.8 k with appollo used for 5-6 trackdays per year and the rest on road. Im doing 3k oil changes and so far have used the caterham official 5-50w. I've heard that lots of people use halfords fully synth 5-40w....is this ok (its a darn site easier to get) Go on tell me you know you want too
  20. Hi Phil What oil temps are you getting up to with the appollo? On the road I get up to 90-100 (when playing), track 100 and just above. (140 1.8 K) Just interested as I've also thought about this upgrade
  21. whats the general concensus on oil for the k. I've got a 1.8 supersport due an oil change and up till now its had caterham 5-50. Its used for track and road so is halfrauds fully synth ok? sorry for the hijack rich

    steering play

Hi Guys I've noticed that at stand-still theres a little play in the steering where by you can move the wheel a small amount before the wheels start to turn. When driving you can't feel this, its only when the cars stationary. On further investigation the play is at the top steering bracket where the two rods meet at the bracket. The clamp is very tight and further tightening has no real effect. Should I worry about it or.....do they all do that sir
  23. I'm looking at the mo and twin axle is without doubt the better setup. However there is a reasonable price diffference and it was suggested to me going down the single axle with run flat tyres option if you fancied a cheaper but slightly safer option then a single axle on its own. In my mind any trailer beats driving in the 7 to the track 😬
