  1. I think the whole car is seen as "venerable" 😬 Try a Search for Armourfend
  2. Should have expected the first reply 😬 . Will there be instructors available ? (didn't get chance to go out with one at BH due to me being in the "last pit garage" and not finding time to go hunt them down to arrange it at the other end of the pit)......Note to self ... I must arrive earlier / get off my 🙆🏻 next time ....... Can't wait ...please please please Mr Postman deliver quickly .... PS I will also be out to blag a ride in the Experts section. Thanks to Club Sec last time ... this time I'm looking for a ride in one of the bike engined cars.....any offers ?? Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  3. Got my form in. This is only my 2nd ever track day (1st was BHGP last year 😬). Should I be successful, anyone care to enlighten me as to what to expect at Silverstone ! Steve Campbell P889 GRR

  5. Hmmmmm. I'm seriously considering upgrade of 1.6kss. Looking at the link from RP, the K04 upgrade for ~ £2000 giving ~ 16O BHP looks interesting. One thing I don't want to do is adversely affect the drivability of the car "round town" when not on a blat. Anyone like to comment on what such an upgrade will do to the overall ease of driving round town ? Ta Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  6. Thanks. Rapid answers to numpty questions is what I need ! Happy blatting 😬 Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  7. Ok .... I've read the thread and am a tad confused (admitedly a complete numpty when it comes to electricity... ... and all things mechanical come to that 😳!!) I think Chris W has answered my question in relation to Steve F's poser ... but to be sure ... I have standard Banner battery (
  8. I'm in the same boat as DM (had the car over 3 years and mechanical muppet .) Anyone like to comment on how different the ss would feel with an extra 20-25bhp re: the Caterham mod to 160bhp ? What about driveability for round town ? Is there a "threshhold" of adding bhp that you can feel / notice ? (ie add 10 bhp, you won't notice the difference) Going to 160bhp from the 1.6kss, what would that do to the 0-60 times (presume handling no change other than being more careful with the right foot) ? Ta, Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  9. Have you tried Mer & some elbow grease ?? It seems to shift most things on the body work, including tar deposits.
  10. I didn't fit mine, it was on when I bought the car but it's permanently fitted below and behind the ignition (and linked to the Apollo.) Not an easy place to "flick it" but I'm not racing. I only use it to check the oil / engine's warmed up to start proper blatting and then switch to water temp to make sure we're not overheating. I like the idea of fitting between water/oil gauges so may be moving it now ! Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  11. Thanks everyone. When i first bought the car I asked advice on fuel and was advised that 95 is fine for road use. No need for 97 at all. Seems opinion may now have changed. I'll definitely be topping up with Optimax before the event then ! Keep the good advice coming ... I need all I can get ! Thanks Keith, I have read all the stuff many times now and was wondering if anyone on here might add that little gem of info ! Does anyone know how many people will be at BH in total and how many in each category ? Cheers Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  12. Hi all, I'm off to the Club track day next Tuesday at Brands Hatch & I'm now getting VERY excited ! It's my first time on a track(Yippeeeeee) 😬 Couple of Questions : 1) What fuel should I use ? It's a standard 1.6ss and for normal road use I've been using bog standard 95 RON most of the time with the odd 97 fill up. Should I definitely fill up with 97 prior to the day ? What about Shell Optimax ... is that better ? 2) General question .... what MUST I remember to take with me on the day and what would be nice to haves ? !! Thanks for your help & see you at BH if you're going... Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  13. Rob, Thanks.... at least I knew it was a cable !! Told you I was a mechanical moron ! wink.gif Actually, I was driving to work this morning in the 7 and thought "plonker" you typed clutch & meant speedo so I HAVE learnt something from reading these forums. Do you think my boss will agree it's part of my development program and surfing this at work is OK ? Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  14. I am now getting a bit worried. I have just spent a few minutes reading all the posts on gearbox oil over the past days. However, I am a complete beginner on car mechanics. My car is a 1997 1.6ss with 6 speed. Last serviced in May 2001 by J Whiting. < 4,500 road miles since. No noticeable problems with the gearbox although it can be a "bit sticky" until warm. This has always been the case. Had the car over 2 years. It has a small leak in the gearbox (like about 10 drops over Xmas when the car isn't used). The leak appears to come from where the clutch cable bit enters the box (that's about as technical as I get). Again this has always been the case and I asked JW about it when it was serviced. Nothing to worry about, they all have a bit of play and small leak, was the reply from JW. Do I need to get hold of this Redline MTL oil and "top up" ? How do I "top up" !! Thanks from a worried owner ! Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  15. Also try grandprixracewear. I just bought some Sparco Karting boots for £70 (although you'll have to pay delivery on top if you can't pick them up from Chiswick roundabout or Silverstone).
  16. Thanks everyone. I was planning to get down to Halfords this morning to get some of the products recommended here but the weather was so nice I just ended up on a general 2 hour blat ! I'll get round to it next weekend wink.gif Cheers, Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  17. Anyone got advice in cleaning / shining up the doors / hood / boot cover & tonneau ? I haven't paid much attention to mine for a year and have decided they need a good clean & polish other then the usual soap & water. Oh, and also any good ideas for making the exhaust heat cover shiny...is it made from Ali ? Cheers Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  18. Sounds about right. 2 had a good 1.5 mm left and 2 were a bit closer to the knuckle ... Decided just to replace the whole lot. I considered keeping them but as I haven't ventured onto the track thought I'd not bother as they'll just end up cluttering the garage. Hope they come in useful ! Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  19. Sorry for the delay in replying .. been away with work / bank holiday etc. Bracknell T&B did a sterling job. Dropped them off on the Monday morning and picked up Monday night. £25.85 fitted balanced etc. No probs with the alloys. Recommended as far as I'm concerned. Managed to take them out for their first "spin" yesterday afternoon, just a quick blat around Wellington Country Park area. Hope to see you all around the B roads around here .. I'll be the one in the Blue 1.6ss with new looking Yoko's smile.gif Cheers for the advice Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  20. Mark, Thanks for the quick reply. Are you in the Finchampstead area ? I had a black Ferrari behind me today when I was loaded up with the 4 tyres .. was it you ? Regards Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  21. HELP ! First time I've changed my tyres on the car. I've got a set of Yoko A032R's to replace the old set from George Polley. I'm now looking for the best place to have them fitted and it has to be tomorrow !! (MOT imminent). How are the above company for fitting these kind of tyres on my lovely alloys ? I tried today at Charlie Browns but they wouldn't touch them ... they recommended going to Elite Wheels in Reading (near the Battle hospital). If it was you ... Bracknell T&B or Elite Wheels in Reading. Reply soon .... smile.gif Thanks Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  22. Snapper, Same spec, same year. I bought 2nd hand from Caterham. I asked them and they said although 97 Octane is recommended in the book, 95 is OK for road use (but switch to 97 as per Paul's comments) I've used bog standard unleaded for 18 months with no problems (all road use) and only filled her up with 97 once (planned to do track day but had to cancel at last minutesad.gif) Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  23. I called into the factory for a set. They offered the type that Chris mentions but advised not to buy as they were crap !! They suggested I try any good Ford garage ! Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  24. Guys, It's not the floor carpet (poppers fitted) but the carpet on the side. Velcro / Evo Stick / Carpet Tape ??? Cheers Steve Campbell P889 GRR
  25. Simple question ! First, Yes I have carpet in the car ! I've just noticed the carpet has started to come away in the passenger footwell (my wife says it wasn't her but she definitely uses the footwell to brace her legs wink.gif). Anyway, any advice on the best glue / way of re-attaching ? Cheers Steve Campbell P889 GRR
