  4. Hi there I had exactly the same problem on my live axle recently, afer only 10k miles. The cause of the clonk is the half shaft moving in the bearing. There is a small ridge behind the bearing (splined end) about 3/8" away, this is probably the amount of float that you have. Can you move the half shaft in and out quite easily? The answer is to either tack weld a new bearing in the right position as previously suggested, or as I did, to make a pair of collars which are pressed up behind the bearing to stop it moving away from the hub/backplate assembly. The cause of all this is the fact that BL bearings are a press fit onto the half shaft, with no provision for any kind of register to stop further movement. Bearings can be obtained from any bearing dealer or even Caterham, but you will need to put different id seals (not 1") in if you use the collar method of bearing retention as the seals will run on the collar. I made up 30mm od collars (about 15mm width) therefore 30mm id seals. After several hard trackdays I can report no further problems - thats done it! Hubcap
  5. Brent - I have just posted an add for a recirculating type, no good I suppose? Hubcap

  7. Hi there Bacon Butty, I'll take the wheels if not already sold, my email is shubner@globalnet.co.uk - the cheque is in the post. Hubcap
  8. Hi I am intersted in the dry sump system, are all the bits complete for a conversion? email me on shubner@globalnet.co.uk with price etc.. Hubcap
  9. Hi Jam Mad Exactly why was the cost of the conversion more than you expected, what did Ratrace do about the rivnuts that are left in the side skins? Has anyone else had experience of this? Hubcap
  10. Bacon Butty Hi, I have FIA bar and Petty strut which I would sawp for a full roll cage if you are interested, email me on shubner@globlnet.co.uk Hubcap
  11. Hi Ashley I have a copy of the regs from the 750 MC so don't worry about bringing a copy, but I would be interested in finding out more about eligibility/scrutineering issues and looking at some of the basic tweeks that everyone does. See you on Sunday. Regards Simon
  12. Hi Anthony I am thinking about class B, I have a 1700 xflow at present which I may upgrade to an 1800 Zetec which would still be in the same class. I think class A would be a bit rich for me, I am looking forward to the experience of racing and not necessarily an all out no-expense spared assault. I hope to be at Cadwell this weekend to meet up with some of the competitors in the paddock, if you or anyone else is competing let me know. my email address is shubner@globalnet.co.uk telephone 01275 331331 regards Simon
  13. Anthony Many thanks for all this, I shall read the blue bbok thoroughly and talk to Arrowstar as they are fairly close to home. Cheers Hubcap
  14. What safety mods are required to compete in the 750 MC Caterham series? e.g. FIA rollbar or full cage, fuel tank or cell, bulkhead reinforcement etc.. Any info and practical tips would be appreciated. Hubcap
  15. Hi, unfortunately I am not in the market for your car, but I am curious about your zetec conversion. What spec is the engine and which conversion kit did you use? Are you selling to upgrade to another 7, in which case is would you reccomend the zetec to someone looking to change from a 1700 xflow? Hope you find a buyer! Hubcap
  16. I shouldn't bother with standard rubber bushes as they rot pretty quickly if there is any oil around. Demon Tweeks supply Powerflex bushes which are polyurethane, although they have to be cut down a bit, they will last longer, plus you get 2 sets per pack! Hubcap
  17. Dear excess baggage! email me your address etc. for cheque - how much for postage or can I collect ? V happy to make donation to NTL. email address as follows: shubner@globalnet.co.uk Hubcap
  18. Thanks for the info Domster, sounds like bench seats for me. Hubcap
  19. How much for the bench seats? I need a bit more legroom than my cloth adjustables, will the bench seats help? Hubcap
  20. I have just done a mod on my live axle car to stop the half shafts moving in the bearings. This may be the clonk you can hear when cornering. The bearing is retained in its housing, but there is nothing retaining the half shaft, the hub stops it moving in, but the only thing stopping it moving out on an Ital axle is a ridged area (26mm od) on the shaft which is approximately 15mm further inboard from where the bearing should be. Consequently the shaft, which is retained purely by the interference fit between itself anf the inner race of the bearing, can move by 15mm when under high cornering forces. My mod was to machine collars which then press up behind the bearing, trapping it between the collar and hub. So far so good, trackday at Oulton tomorrow will tell. PS the new collars meant changing the seals to ones with a larger id - 30mm. Further info should appear in Low Flying. Hubcap
  21. Cheap Caterham wanted as basis for new upgrade project. Any car in any condition welcome, with or without engine. Ideally x-flow live axle car in need of rebuild / refurb. Whatever you have I am interested. Cash waiting up to £6.5k Hubcap
  22. Nigel, thanks for your help, I have sourced a bearing and note your comment about boring a parallel hole in the 'eye' on the A-frame. Thanks Hubcap
  23. Will speak to JW and enquire further.
  24. Deanteam Where did you source the spherical bearing from and did you have to modify the housing on the end of the a-frame? Hubcap
  25. Deanteam Where did you source the spherical bearing from and did you have to midify the housing on the end of the a-frame? Hubcap
