  1. try a kevlar/mls gasket or even standard - the mls ones i imagine you are on about really demand flat clean surfaces which arent always the easiest things to guarantee
  2. stick with beru, very pricey, but very good on this engine
  3. they do look lovely, but is it 1 piece alloy? this must inherit stress differences surely with the different materials used the steel slotted flys are at least 1 piece if i am wrong correct me cos i havent actually held a fidanza fly, only seen pics of mates ones
  4. well since they are higher poundage they wont compress as much under the weight of the car what we do is take all the details of the current spring and how much lower the owner wants the car to sit then a suitable length of spring is made to the correct poundage...its invariably a smaller spring required for a higher poundage, hence your problem. if its 30mm higher, get 30mm smaller 250lb springs i guess Edited by - 16vastra on 13 Nov 2004 17:55:16
  5. fidenza i take it. they have a load of applications, but arent worth the money really. i will have a look in the book when i get back to work monday, but i havent seen a x16xe flywheel. to be honest i would just get a slotted steel flywheel and use a 7.25" clutch, even tho you dont want to, its the way to go! i do 3kg ones for the 20xe, they are quite nice and if you manage to get a 2nd hand clutch setup you will end up paying around the same as the fidenza, but have a much better setup overall.
  6. yeah i deal with farndon, they are good, but as above they prefer people to order in larger quantities
  7. i had a slightly corrupt map upload once, as soon as throttle was pressed it died. did same as you to fix it. glad you got it sorted steve
  8. thanks for the interest, i passed all emails on, this is now provisionally sold
  9. £225.00 incl p&p. just the ecu an loom for tbs contact Paul on an011c7452@blueyonder.co.uk
  10. yeah, seen the starter 'flick' the bolt free when the engine has been in the car before now also if you cut the head off the thread is finger tight (apparently lol)
  11. i know 3 people with them on vauxhalls (xe and let) and they are very nice indeed. done as small group buy from america i think as it was a fair bit cheaper. no problems as far as i know, they do their job.
  12. he's kindof busy and steers clear of 1offs due to time and cost, but if theres a few people wanting a cf item he will get round to it yeah
  13. hes been making CF stuff for a while, quality has never been a problem
  14. got your email mate, better off if i give you a post with lots of pics of the guys stuff and the quality http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=25e5dc5b096690521aece9152743a1e6&threadid=109919 and his email addy is www.carbon.carry-on@ntlworld.com but hes not always online, so dont panic if you dont get a reply for a while, websites coming soon apparently
  15. thats a honda rocker cover by the way, i forgot to mention, and there is an oil cap and he does plug covers and heatshields as well - http://mig2.lathwood.co.uk/upload/b/bits2.jpg & belt covers for xe and xev http://mig2.lathwood.co.uk/upload/e/ecotec_camcover.jpg price not firm as he hasnt moulded any yet, but hes not usually far off or that expensive (eg plug covers are 40 quid inc stainless bolts, cambelt cover is 45 and the heat shield is 20, hell even a full nova bonnet (not just skin) is only 380 quid - http://mig2.lathwood.co.uk/upload/b/bonnnnnet.jpg) lol i sound like an advert
  16. i know a guy who will do a run of these maybe next year (does carbon bonnets and bits already) theres pics up of the covers already, but heres the style http://mig2.lathwood.co.uk/upload/2/2_carbon_cam_cover.jpg and he says 'Carbon rocker/cam covers would be somewhere in the region of £300-400 and will probably not use all the bolts to secure it, but i will have the face cnc machined flat so it wont **** oil onto your exhaust.' how that compares to other carbon cover prices i dont know tho.

  21. i have p05s myself, but do the p02s or 7s need solid lifters then? purely out of laziness, any ideas how much the hyd->solid mod costs? cheers
  22. takes a couple of hours with cleaning and soaking in jizzer or whatever. worked for me, was clacky and 2 years later (nearly) its silent. 1 note, put them back in the same slot they came out of.
  23. go for cams in the 270 degree duration range if you want to keep your pistons standard if you fancy getting 2mm extra cut into the piston grooves then i would suggest you get 284 degree cams (well, sbd's are 284in/278ex) as its still very drivable as for tappets, make sure your oil pressure is spot on and clean them out (http://16vastra.usererror.org.uk/lifters.htm) and i have found that valvoline 20w50 keeps them silent! its mineral and therefore cheaper too. solid lifters are usually fairly noisy all the time from what i have seen (dont run them myself tho)
  24. i know about the pressure difference from startup which is why i adjusted mine to 50psi when the engine was hot and had been on a run...sure it runs at 58psi in the morning, but i adjusted the cold start fuelling to compensate. it does not drop lower than 50 psi tho, will have to keep an eye on that!
  25. the range is quite limited isnt it...i mean with my current cams i run 50psi and with my others i run 60 so i would need 2 of these but it looks ok i guess. i run an sbd blacktop modded fse thing with jic connections (think it was 70 quid it ended up as) which holds pressure perfectly well.
