  1. Many thanks Guy and Owjay Will keep you posted. Cheers ! Pierre
  2. What do you mean exactly 7heavensoon ? Pierre
  3. The manager of a well known team over here who has been racing 1.6 K EU2 stock engines for several years without any problem, is concerned by 8 engine failures since they shifted to EU3 engines. He has been obliged to have them rebuilt with forged pistons. The engines are used in the French 'Challenge Caterham'. I read on TechTalk that EU3 engines run smaller injectors than EU2 engines. If this fact was confirmed, could it explain the failures, less heat being taken out by fuel evaporation ? What can be the remedies, other than replacing the pistons @ 1500 € Pierre Edited by - Pierre Gillet on 18 Apr 2005 19:57:19
  4. After having fitted SS cams and ECU, 2 verniers and a Trophy TB, I struggled with the same problem. Dave recommended that I turn clockwise, progressively, the screw of the TB. At 1/8 turn it solved the problem. Pierre Edited by - Pierre Gillet on 10 Apr 2005 20:00:48
  5. I am relieved. I was not the only one trying to guess what off side and near side mean What about right and left ? 😬 Pierre
  6. I received the second engine mount from Caterham. It looks like Grant's lower picture. here Question: I noticed that this side engine mount (RHS) is already reinforced by a triangle, which was not the case for the older models of other one. Since most photos of craked monts I have seen are of the other side mount (LHS), I am wondering if RHS mounts are as prone to craking as LHS ones . Pierre
  7. Yes , I have exactly the same pressures with an apollo and a Laminova , 5W40 oil and the normal Caterham pressure gauge. . Pierre
  8. Exactly the same oil pressure using before and after fitment of the Hellier baffle Motul 300V 5W40, although the new oil is the later formulation. Pierre Edited by - Pierre Gillet on 1 Apr 2005 17:38:36
  9. I agree with you. Richard supplied me with 3 lovely Racetech mirrors which are easy to fit. He is even giving instructions to position them on the aeroscreen Pierre
  10. In its box with instructions. Perfect condition. I paid 69 £. Looking for 45 £ including postage. Pierre
  11. I second Mathew . Very happy to have been able to get rid of the foam. I experienced the same foam dissolution. Well, in my case, it just melted down. The baffle seems perfect on the Yvelines roads. Will more seriously test the Hellier baffle on the Bugatti track 24/25 of April. Pierre
  12. OK, I have a flap valve on top of Appolo. Normally when I fill up only though the cam cover only (oil filter having been filled up before putting in place), it takes ages to get an oil pressure (but as you say,may be I am too quick at cranking the engine). I noticed that I was taking out more than 2 liters of oil from the Appolo. So I fed 2 liters of oil through the top of the Appolo (it is not so long to do so). And the oil pressure is almost instantaneous. Pierre Edited by - Pierre Gillet on 22 Mar 2005 15:30:00
  13. As Myles it took me one hour to fit the baffle but ... not counting replacing the oil, the filter, the gaskets (sump and oil pickup O ring). Pouring 2 l of oil directly through the top of the appolo etc... Overall: 3 hours Pierre
  14. I have a digital Datel voltmeter which is on line all the time. The battery is a Hawker 525. My data are: Cranking : 10,54 V Idling :13,44 V Please let me know if you need other figures. Glad if I can help Metal Mickey , I was so happy with the difficult slash/rounded cut you did for my Raceco !) Cheers ! Pierre
  15. And more generally where can the appropriate signal be taken ( ECU, crank sensor, ...) Pierre
  16. For 185 60 13 tyres the only wingstays that I like are the SLR wingstays Pierre
  17. shagbat, You mean that picking up the signal on the tachometer does not work ? Even with a soldered connection? How did you take the signal on the crank position sensor ? Pierre Edited by - Pierre Gillet on 20 Mar 2005 18:21:06
  18. I am envisaging fixing a DataTool on top of my mod 11 momo wheel. The upper part of this model of wheel hub is flat and allows fitting the DataTool on it thanks to a small ali corner.
  19. My understanding is that wires must be soldered to get a good signal. Pierre
  20. I just replaced the LHS one, and did not find any crack . It was 8 years old and had performed 30 000km. But it is also true that most of the time I am using 14 " wheels on the road, and so do not ground the sump often. Pierre
  21. Ooops, double post Edited by - Pierre Gillet on 18 Mar 2005 21:09:06
  22. Caterham is now sending me the right mount, thanks to your photo Grant. It was just a matter of exchanging some mails with attached photos. Fabulous. The one they had sent was probably for VVC cars. Pierre
  23. Thanks again Grant. These two photos are those of the mount I am talking about, and the one that Caterham sent me is different. e.g. it has a leg brazed to it that is also bolted on the engine . I am going back to Darren and will attach your photo if you don't care. Merci! Pierre
