  1. Nigel, simple answer is yes for aluminium bits, heads can overheat and soften rendering thiem pretty much useless.
  2. Bob, I got some direct from Powerspeed, horrible stuff to put in, like trying to get a bucketful of eels through a keyhole!
  3. Tom, Polleys had them last week, I'm getting mine from Adams and Page in High Wycombe.
  4. I managed to reserve the 2 A021s I need, the next delivery from Yokohama due in the next few days are the last E marked ones we will see, so after this lot I'll have to chance to something else. Yoko A539's have had a good report from others. Does anyone know if these are also likely to be non E rated?
  5. You could get a Cummins diesel engine under an Sv. Loads of room. A bit more of a snug fit for us slight and slender series 3 owners
  6. If you stick with the full VVC, you will need to do some cutting and soldering on the wiring, my mate Pete knew what he was doing, and understood it all, I didn't, but in the ned it all made sense, it was about splicing in the VVC engine loom to the rest of the wiring loom. Ditch the VVC bit and some sensors come off, which probably means even more hacking, but Mankee can probably best advise on that bit as he's done it. My engine came out of an MG ZR160, complete with engine loom but the ECU was wrecked in the crash that killed the car. I got hold of a VVC ECU from another local member, and got it checked for the correct map, and had the immobiliser matched to it, by a mate of a mate of a mate. I can let you have his contact details off line. One other thing, SM25T says about the plenum, I had the aluminium one, as oppoesd to plastic, and I had to get it machined to fit under the bonnet, even with the correct engine mounting, lets say it's still a snug fit. Good luck
  7. You'll also quite probably need a spacer for the bearing at the end of the crank where the gearbox shaft fits and a new bearing. Rimmer bros are good for the standard Rover parts, otherwise Caterham parts can help.
  8. I swapped 1.6 to 1.8vvc and the fit itself was straightforward. I retained the Apollo tank, but you'll need a new Ecu and immobiliser jobby. The wiring itself wasn't too difficult but I managed to recruit the help of a capable local member to assist. It took us a morning to do it and it started first time. You'll need new flywheel bolts and a different engine mount on one side, sorry can't remember which side, to drop the engine as its taller than the one coming out. Good luck they are good engines and the upgrade in torque and speed is very handy.
  9. I forgot to mention, it's the old pattern with the cut out on the front edge (for rear exit exhaust?).
  10. I have a spare S3 wing brand new, unused and unpainted surplus to requirements. it is in raw glassfibre, ie with no colour. Photos are on my blog, as I have no idea how to link the photos directly to this posting! http://www.lotus7.club/sites/default/files/blog-images/P1030641.JPG http://www.lotus7.club/sites/default/files/blog-images/P1030642.JPG New these cost £120 ish, so how about £70.00? as the wing is fragile, and large, collection from Bedfordshire (or Gonads) please. Thanks
  11. Yes it was me, following Ephraim as William says on the way back from the PMMB. My 2nd spotted in 11 years, I need to get out more.
  12. And around double that for 185/60 13's, crazy price, I'm going to change to 539's as the 70 profile won;t fit under the front wing stays.
  13. Well who's going to own up to having a caravan on here?
  14. Thanks all, better buy some new drill bits tomorrow then!
  15. Thanks Roadsport, I was hoping not to end up drilling the blighters out, but if I have to I have to. Damn.
  16. I need to remove the windscreen and the 4 bolts on the 2 stanchions seem to have non-captive nuts on the inside, carefuly inaccessible behind the knee trim panels, do I need to drill the rivets out and remove the panels to get at the bolts?
  17. GN53GZD I think, no doors and driver well wrapped up, brave man.
  18. Mr Oily wrong????? Surely not (and anyway I agree with him, how on earth can oil rise up to the top of the tank?)

    Upgrade options

Get yourself along to the Premier Power open day later this month, details here and you'll be able to check them out and talk to Stuart and have a ride in various versions. He's got an engine sale onto, so could be a bargain to be had.
  20. When I changed from 1.6K to 1.8vvc 160bhp, I swapped the flywheel over, both are EU3. Hope that helps.
  21. Shiny new hub arrived today, about to cooked at gas mark 4 for 30 minutes and the race drifted in. To be fair the race driftrd in on the old hub, but when it was home it was spinning around.
