  1. Hi Andrew, Due to a house move, I will have very little spare time for a year or so. It doesn't bother me if I can't register it for a year or two ( it has to be 30 years old), and if possible I would like an HPC or similar. I owned a Swindon engined one with straight cut gearbox, and two other HPC's in the past, and they were lovely cars.
  2. Just missed one ......Immediate purchase of a nice original car if there's one out there available please.
  3. On retention, I kept this, but am now in France, so can't use.. The dogz blx
  4. Thanks very much for the replies. I will mend with chemical metal AND fit a support from the damper bolt to the headlamp plate. At last I have a plan!! I was worried about getting it re-brazed by a blacksmith here in France, and feel much happier now. thanks again.
  5. Hi, I have a 1998 car with classic long front wings. I noticed that one of the wings seemed to move about more than the other over bumps. I discovered that the brazed on clamp that holds the tubular steel support tube for the wing has broken away. It looks as if it has been re-brazed before, and it seems to have been done well, as the brazing has not failed this time, but two very tiny bits of the chassis tubes have pulled away with the clamp. The tubes still look very strong, and not mechanically affected. Someone has placed a hose clip around the inner end of the support tube, which clamps it to the chassis tube below - a right bodge!! I decided to try a repair using chemical metal and some other metal structural reinforcement, but wondered if this is a common problem, or if maybe, the wing has probably had a knock at some time? I do like cycle wings, but have decided to keep the car all original if possible. Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Sorry for the delay - thanks so much for your replies. I had forgotten just how helpful you all are I will call Redline for the wheel nuts, and will check the seats for adjusters, and if non-adjustable, will use spacers to start with. Our French registration just arrived, and the plates are ready to fit. The damper tops protrude through the boot cover, showing like a live axle.. They are new Spax adjustables, which should be great for the sometimes bumpy roads in Charentes. When the car arrived, it had 30 psi in the tyres. It's much more compliant with 18 !! I wonder how tight the wheel nuts are......I am amazed at the performance from the 1800 engine. It was quite a surprise. It's time to experiment with the dampers. Thanks again.
  7. Hi all, Back after a five year break without a Caterham. We have an '89 Supersprint Roger King 1800, and the older seats (without headrests) slope back a bit too much for comfort. Does anyone know if modern leather or cloth seats will fit this car please?. The standard roll over bar on this model is listed as being too low for a softbits half hood. I wonder if the seats may slope back to give sufficient headroom with the standard hood up? Any thoughts much appreciated. Also, the chrome wheel nuts on the car are tatty. I looked on line for "Shiny Nuts" who used to do stainless ones, but think they must have ceased trading. Does anyone else do similar wheel nuts please? My wheels are the original alloys.
