    F1 Turbo

We're going to see a lot more technical details coming out over the next few months. The FIA has realised how little the public appreciate the technical advances that have been made in these new cars and is pushing the engine manufacturers to 'boast' about what they have achieved. For example, the thermal efficiency of these new power units is about 35% over a race distance. To put that in perspective, that is about the same as a modern diesel repmobile cruising down the motorway at a constant 2000 rpm!

    F1 Turbo

Quoting elie boone: I would split up the compressor in 2 smaller one's if I want to reduce lag. Quoting F1 Regs: 5.1.6 Pressure charging may only be effected by the use of a sole single stage compressor linked to a sole single stage exhaust turbine by a shaft assembly parallel to the engine crankshaft and within 25mm of the car centre line. The shaft must be designed so as to ensure that the shaft assembly, the compressor and the turbine always rotate about a common axis and at the same angular velocity, an electrical motor generator (MGU-H) may be directly coupled to it Edited by - Barbarossa. on 10 Apr 2014 12:29:33
  3. Brand awareness. As someone who specifies adhesives, professionaly, on a daily basis. When I need a silicone, I usually choose from the Dow Corning range, just as if I were to specify an epoxy or acrylic, it would be 3M or Hysol. Edited by - Barbarossa. on 10 Apr 2014 09:53:21
  4. If the cam belt fails, you won't be able to fix it just by fitting a new one!
  5. POR 15 Marine Clean is the best stuff I've come across. You need to wear gloves because it degreases your skin very efficiently.
  6. On the subject - and because I think I may have the same problem - does anyone have any feedback on the Multi Layer Steel (MLS) gasket that Rover now offer? It comes as a kit with higher spec head bolts, new oil rail in the sump and a new gasket. Link
  7. Coming out of Greens Norton. Yesterday 11am. I was cycling the other way. Edited by - Barbarossa. on 4 Nov 2013 07:26:30
  8. 6' and 8' wheels, I thought I had come to the Komatsu owners club website by mistake.
  9. Mine occasionaly does this. Rocking it forward in gear sorts it. I put it down to the starter and ring gear going tooth to tooth.
  10. Moving the pedals is quite easy. Take the top off the pedal box, it's fairly obvious.
  11. I've got a Rega Planar 3 turntable I don't use anymore. It has a catridge, but nothing special. If you're interested drop me a line.
  12. Logitech G27 Wheel. Before I put it on ebay, I'll offer it here. They make about £200 on ebay, so how about £180 + postage.
  13. Sent the injectors away to a specialist. I think that they clean them ultrasonicaly. In both cases, I ended up getting the garage to diagnose the problem. Without the right tset equipment, you are just shooting in the dark.
  14. In 16 years, my 2 k-series missfires turned out to be; Blocked injector, when was the fuel filter changed last? By the way, anyone remember the service interval for the fuel filter? Failed ECU - Came on suddenly with difficult starting and poor low speed running. Got quickly worse.
  15. I'll let you off then. I think that I would change all 4 though. If the rears are getting to the point where the carcass is cracking, the fronts can't be much better.
  16. If your tyres are lasting 7 years, you need to: - Drive it harder - Drive it more - Upgrade your engine And be ashamed of posting about the fact on here! Edited by - Barbarossa. on 18 Jun 2013 12:13:52
  17. I think that they are just very well sealed. The only reason that you need air running through an electric motor is for cooling. Being submerged gives much better cooling through the casing there would be if it was in air.
  18. Thanks guys, I've sent some PMs. Does anyone know if the 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 ECUs were the same? I imagine that a 2003 R300 was EU3?
  19. Nobody changed to en Emerald and has their old one gathering dust in he garage?
  20. Just to update. Turned out to be an ECU fault. New ECU an all working fin again.
  21. Anyone got a K-Series EU2 Supersport ECU? Edited by - Barbarossa. on 31 May 2013 09:31:14
  22. My Rover ECU has died. Rather than replace the standard Rover one, I am looking at an aftermarket one. Emerald seems to be the most popular but Northampton Motorsport are suggesting an Omex ECU. Anyone got any experience of these?
  23. Did wonder about the lambda sensor, I'll give it a try.
  24. My car developed a misfire today - standard 1600 K-Series. This morning, there were a couple of pops from the exhaust on overrun. This evening, it was difficult to start and wouldn't idle and misfire below 3000rpm. Plugs are clean, but smells very rich at idle. Any thoughts?
