  1. Guys, Correction to above, I have looked back at the initial videos I made of the first start up. Despite what I thought the shift lights do not illuminate at all during ignition start up. So it seems they have not worked since the start. Also another question on the Aces on my R500, how ( when they do work!!) do you adjust the brighness of them. On my old R400 there was a button on the dash that allowed you to do this, but there does not seem to be the same button on my R500. Any ideas? Thanks again in advance. Nige. 2. Hi Guys, Not sure if I am missing something stupid here re my R500 shift lights!! I think that they have not worked since the car was returned from post build at caterham factory. They are not illuminating when you put the ignition, I am sure they did before it went to post build though!! I have gone into the stack set up menu to edit the sift points, but using the stack switches 1 and 2, as the manual says you should does nothing?? Those switches do work for other functions in the stack though, so I know that functions OK. Also there is no display on the Aces Shift up light controller module mounted on the firewall. I have done the basic check of checking the power and earth and both are fine. Can you guys think of anything else I need to check or put right? Thanks in advance. Nige. 5. Hi Guys, Thanks for looking. Sorry did not even think about a buy it now price!!! I just looked at the Caterham on line store, and the closest I can see on there is the R500 Rover ECU which is £684.25!! Wow is all I can say!! Caterham Store ECU I think that despite the fact that its red, mine is exactly the same as the R500 one, I even think the standard supplied maps are the same on the R300/400/500 K series cars too, but not exactly sure. Lets see how the bidding goes this week. Thanks for looking. Nige. Nigel Nigel Pugh - Area Representative - WAGS - Worcestershire Area Group Sevens R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  6. Hi Guys, I am selling my spare R400 MBE 967 ECU, that was previously on my R400 K Series car. here is the link to the advert: R400 MBE ECU on ebay This is the original Caterham provided MBE ECU with the standard map. Any questions please feel free to ask. Thanks in advance for looking. Nige. Nigel Nigel Pugh - Area Representative - WAGS - Worcestershire Area Group Sevens R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  7. Rob and Duncan, Thanks for the comments, I will do my best to see what we can do about testing it on a track and a dyno too. I think it was a £500 option on my car from new, and I am sure it wont be much different price as purchased as an aftermarket option. Unfortunately I wont get much chance to play this weekend due to other commitments with family etc. Hope to report back more later. Nige. 8. Guys, As you know I finally collect my car from CC Factory yesterday. I have been waiting for the optional carbon airbox to arrive as they had problems with the manufacturer. However they have now fitted it to my car and it is quite a different design from the previous one. Mark Edwards at the factory told me it was in order to keep the sound lower for quiet track days, he also told me that they have tested it and it comes in at under 95Db. Thought you might like to see some pictures: New R500 Carbon Airbox Rest of the pictures are in the webshot album: R500 CP Pictures Nigel Nigel Pugh - Area Representative - WAGS - Worcestershire Area Group Sevens R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  9. Sean, Glad you got it sorted. I collected my car from the Factory today, we had quite a blast on the way home. Out of interest it seemed that a lot of people were collecting or ordering the pipes you refer too, perhaps a lot of people got the wrong ones in the kit too!!! I was driving home yesterday a mostly high motorway speeds, and even though the temp outside was only 3 degrees, my new Duratec engine ran about 85 degrees water temp during the drive home. Stopping at toll crossings and waiting in traffic the water temp rises very quickly to over 100 degrees and the fan cuts in. As you know I insulated my tunnel with heat shield but the tunnel in the cab still gets very hot. I can only assume its heat not leaving the engine bay from the right hand sided exhaust headers. I contemplated putting an additional fan on my last R400, and I think I will look at this again now!! First upgrade project already planned then!! Good luck with your build. Nige. 10. Guys, Cant beat you on the furthest North I am afraid. However in an answer to the question regarding the R500 Carbon Airbox. I have had my R500 kit since the middle of September, and still don't have my Carbon Airbox yet. Apparently there has been design changes and problems with the supplier of the airboxes. As my car is now at the CC Factory, and passed its SVA test yesterday I was hoping to find out that the airbox is now ready to be fitted to the car. No sch luck I am afraid they still have a problem with the air filter fitting the new style airbox, so it looks like a new air filter is also needed!! Not even sure if when I get the car back I will have the air box fitted, or just the hole in the bonnet and the supplied Pipercross filter sticking out!! Nige. 11. Sean, Yes you need the right angle hose that caterham supply, like the one n my new R500. I have sent you an email with links to my pictures. Nige. Nigel Nigel Pugh - Area Representative - WAGS - Worcestershire Area Group Sevens R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  12. Darren, I am sorry but no, I have to make sure that I am in a position to beat Pat, so I cant give away any trade secrets, and by the way there are quite a few, but only real new R500 owners like myself, Marcello R, Martin S and Mike will ever know about and we are in the exclusive club!! As Swiss tony says, there's a privileged club in this town, and we are fully signed up members, Gold card status!!! etc Etc Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  13. Pat, Oh dear, so you really are worried then about how much quicker my new car will be than your car then? Better start saving up your cash to make sure your car is modified enough just to be able to even stay in the same postcode as my new R500. Yeah right, dream on Pat!!! Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  14. Chris, I am sure you have read my comments about this very point on here and DR too. There are lots of pictures on my webshots album too. Here: Picture of Top of Shock It is a real PITA to get at but I had a allen key on my 1/4 drive socket set with the wobble head, that got me in there fine, but you do have to push the body skin quite a way, so much so that you worry about damaging. Mine is fine now though. Good luck. Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  15. Martin, Thanks it feels like I am over the main hump of it now ( fingers crossed!!). The black plastic cowl is what Caterham refer to as the Cats Tongue, and is the vent from the rad out to the top of the vented nose cone. And yes it does fit under the nose cone, its a bit tight but its all OK once it goes together. I will see what I can do about the audio, lots of the sound problems are due to the compression you need to do to get the file compressed enough for sites like webshots and you tube. Perhaps I could just do a recording and save it as a wav file, I could use my Olympus digital recorder for that. Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  16. Giles, Thanks for that. Yes I agree, it does seem that completion is not far off now. There is always more left than you realize though, but hope to get it done this week and over to Caterham Midlands for the SVA some time soon. Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  17. Jason, Yes I agree re the indicators, but they are only there for the SVA test. Caterham have supplied the clear ones too, so they will be fitted after the car hopefully pass the SVA test. Same goes for the rear light units too. Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  18. Guys, Yes the problems with the first engine was related to the dry sump oil pump and supplied pipes. Basically there is two versions of the dry sump and pump, I was initially supplied with the incorrect pipes for the version of dry sump on my engine. This meant that the dry sump was sucking oil out of the engine and not circulating, resulting in a lot of bearing failures. Caterham supplied a new engine and swapped my ancillaries such as throttle bodies etc. Seems all good now too. Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  19. Guys, Finally got the new engine that Caterham delivered back to me this week installed in the car, and all plumbed etc. Made extra sure I did lots of oil pressure tests before letting the fuel pump prime. And guess what?, now I have the correct pipes, its all good, loads of oil pressure whilst cranking, see here: Testing for oil pressure And then sprang into life first time of asking, with lots of oil pressure. See here: First Time Starting new engine Still need to work out why the rev counter is not working though, I hope it just needs calibration or something like that!! Anyway it sounds well mean, my wife though that I had a big sports bike revving in the garage. Sounds here: Throttle Response Testing!! So I am a lot happier now. Enjoy. Nige. 20. thanks dave. Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  21. Dave, No one else has come up with the info. Could you let us have the template that you have please. I assume its something you can email. I can be emailed directly here Niges email Thanks, Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  22. Guys, Just been working on the front cycle wings on my car. However they have not been marked for the front drill hole positions. I shall be using the big head mounting system, to save drilling holes in the wing and stays but make them easier to change in future. But I still need to work out where to position them on the stays. From a search on here it seems that from the racing regs the front position is 65mm +/- 10mm, but this seems to have the wing quite far back. Another thread mentions that a vertical line projected up from the front wheel is the correct position. Can any one here tell me the exact official position please? Also does it matter the actual position, as long as they are the same on both sides of course? Thanks in advance. Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  23. Dave, Yes it was the oil pipes, they were supplied as the wrong items, and with the incorrect connection information on them for the type of dry sump pump fitted to my engine. It meant that the oil pump was pulling oil out of the engine instead of the other way around. Doh!!. Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  24. Chris, I am sure you already know this, but make sure and double check you have the correct oil pipes for your engine, before you start it for the fist time!! Or it will just go bang like mine did!! Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
  25. Regin, I will do on Monday, I also hope I can find some photos too. Cheers, Nige. Nigel R500 CP - New 2008 Duratec R500
