Would love to take you for a spin, but got to go to work (flying) tomorrow and the car is still not finished...
Happily take you out next time

Not me, was fitting a electric waterpump today, has not been out of the garage for a couple of weeks
-
The problem is pies just come in so many sizes...

Hi Richard, thanks for the reply, well I guess I am going to have to live with this discrimination against SV owners... Just because you only get a few sales, what kind of excuse is that?
Might try and make a boot lid myself out of Aluminium, or maybe carbon sheet, not sure it will pass your quality control checks.
Tunnel top is still good, works well and the mesh does seem to channel some of the heat away from the gearbox
-
Well its almost time for summer upgrades and the mind inevitably wanders to carbon. As we all know SV's need all the help they can get
so just what is available for the old tank?
Does RIF or anyone else do a boot lid, boot floor or scuttle? As those are the bits I would be interested in doing first

Cool Dave
When do you start upgrading the engine to a cooking spec

oh so slippery slope by a certain person of a Latin persuasion
😳 😳 😳 -
I ran mine for quite a while before I cut the hole. The only reason I did, was because of the serious under-bonnet temperatures I get out here in the desert, so was looking for some cooler inlet air.
I used the standard pipercross filter as supplied by Raceline, to use it under the bonnet, I just cut away a section of the wire mesh in the back of the filter to make it more [techterm] squashy [/techterm]

I got my SV diff area strengthened from new and for the little extra I would suggest it should almost be mandatory. Daft of course that it is not standard.

I cracked the pig-iron case in my BGH on the 226bhp engine. Using the Quaife case now and seems OK for the moment.
If I was looking for a new box I would be tempted to get the new Quaife syncro or dog box. Might be worth speaking to Len Unwin, as I believe he works there now.

Yep 5 litres from dry or approx 4-4.5 on oil change.
Make sure you have a bead of silicone around the outside of the dipstick tube, were it joins the sump, otherwise you can discretely loose a lot of oil, if the O-ring fails (as mine did)

Well just bought myself a EWP80 for £95 here in Dubai, so will fit it to the Duratec without thermostat or controller. My big problem is overheating in the pits while waiting to go out on another track session. I reckon the extra flow at idle will be very useful. And I definately don't have a problem getting my engine up to operating temp.

Thanks Danny & Adam, I was just trying to be cheap about it. Out here, the car never gets really cold, so would be able to run it all the time on the ignition switch.
-
Interesting, was thinking about one of these as my car is pretty close to its temperature controlling capacity. The Emerald ECU I have as the ability to control a fan, could I use this to control teh waterpump, if so would I just use it as a switch and turn on th epump when the engine gets to say 60'c or do you need to run the pump even at low temps?
-
The key to 7 ownership is to upgrade all the time, that way nothing ever gets a chance to seize up.........
Works for me, since starting I have taken my engine and gearbox out on average once every 6 months, mostly due to my lack of mechanical sympathy
-
The big question is this.....how easy is it to remove the engine leaving the gearbox and bellhousing in place?
Straightforward, at least on a Duratec anyway

I wonder what temp. Dobuy sees in Dubai at 50 C? Neil?
OK, well I started off on a Raceline 226bhp with Raceline baffled wet-sump and Raceline Alloy (modified CC) radiator. Initially I got temperatures up to about 114' or so, on the track during high ambient temps (40-45'c)
I fitted the Think Automotive Mocal oil-cooler with thermostatic spin on adapter fitted to just below the level of the radiator.
This cooled temps down nicely, with the highest seen about 102 and the averages much closer to 85.
P.S. If anyone is interested the whole oil cooler system is for sale as I now have a Dry Sump (and higher oil temps!)

Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this summer upgrade 😬

Wouldn't have thought the head gasket would make any difference. Air-leak from TB's maybe? I had a bad misfire, turned out my crank sensor was on the way out, but it was at higher revs.
R400 Fuel pump good for a 280bhp 2.3l Duratec?

Well you know old dogs new tricks, takes a while to re-calibrate after all those years flogging the Rover![*tongue*](https://www.caterhamlotus7.club/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png)
